Walmart is now the first major retailer to integrate hot, made-to-order restaurant meals directly into its express delivery service from inside its stores. Customers in early-access markets can receive a Subway sandwich in under 30 minutes, either bundled with groceries or as a standalone delivery. The rollout is set to reach nearly 1,400 Walmart locations by the end of summer, marking a new chapter in the retailer’s twenty-year partnership with Subway.
Walmart is redefining convenience by connecting restaurant meals with everyday essentials in a way no major retailer has attempted before. Beginning this month, shoppers in select regions can open the Walmart app or visit Walmart.com and order Subway sandwiches, salads, and sides for delivery in thirty minutes or less. The meal can arrive alone or as part of a larger Walmart Express Delivery order that includes produce, household supplies, pharmacy items, or clothing. This marks the first time Walmart has integrated an in-store restaurant brand directly into its express delivery ecosystem, turning its physical locations into hybrid retail and dining hubs.
Subway, which operates more in-store locations inside Walmart than any other restaurant brand, has shared a relationship with the retailer since 2004. The two companies have quietly served millions of joint customers over two decades. Now, instead of requiring shoppers to visit the deli counter or order separately through a third-party app, Walmart has embedded Subway’s menu directly into its own ordering pipeline. The move is less about adding another delivery option and more about rewiring how time-pressed families consolidate their daily needs into a single transaction.
Damien Harmon, President of Subway North America, framed the integration as a natural step in a twenty-year partnership built around freshness, value, and everyday ease. Rather than forcing customers to make separate trips or toggle between apps, Walmart and Subway have effectively merged the fast food run with the grocery run. For Walmart, the strategy signals a broader ambition to become the central command center for household management, bundling prescriptions, apparel, fresh food, and now hot restaurant meals into one streamlined digital cart.
The service is already live in select Walmart stores across Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. By the end of summer, approximately 1,400 Subway locations inside Walmart will offer express delivery through the retailer’s app and website. Eligible customers will see the Subway option automatically appear based on the address tied to their Walmart account, with no separate login or delivery fee structure required beyond standard Express Delivery terms.
