Target (TGT) has made several changes recently, some of which have disappointed web fans. The giant retailer made a major change in its financial transactions. It said that it would no longer accept personal checks. This form of payment will be scrapped in mid-July.

Minnesota-based retailer Target confirmed to multiple outlets that it would no longer accept personal checks effective July 15, as this payment method has low volumes. Other methods of payment will continue to be accepted.

Some of the elderly still use personal checks and are upset by the stoppage of this payment method.

The following payment methods are open for web fans:
cash
debit and credit cards
digital wallets
SNAP/EBT
BNPL —buy now-pay later and
Target Circle Cards.

Target has also made other changes, including limiting or eliminating the self-checkout options available in some stores.

The company said it would open more staffed lanes. Last year, the company piloted Express checkout for 10 items or fewer, which was defined as a success, according to a survey of its web fans.

Other retailers, such as Aldi and Whole Foods, stopped accepting personal checks some time back. Payment by check was popular in the 1980s and 1990s but lost favor with the advent of credit and debit cards.

Some elderly web fans still feel comfortable using personal checks and will be affected as more retailers stop this payment method. Walmart continues to accept personal checks.

Digital wallets such as Venmo and Zelle became popular and convenient payment methods during the pandemic.

Debit and credit cards also remain popular with many web fans. Cash is no longer king, and checks seem to be going out as financial services become more digitized. Cash may be the following form of payment that could be stopped.
