The San Jose Earthquakes have agreed to a deal to acquire midfielder Eduard Lowen from St. Louis City, according to multiple reports.

In return, St. Louis is set to receive $425,000 in GAM funds in addition to another $500,000 GAM in add-ons, per The Athletic.

Lowen, 29, will become a designated player for San Jose (11-7-3). His contract is only guaranteed through the end of the season with an option for next year. He reportedly approached St. Louis about his long-term future, but was told the club would not consider options and extensions until the summer so he requested that it look for potential long-term destinations.

The German international is expected to provide a boost to an Earthquakes team that is winless in six matches since returning from the World Cup break, dropping to fourth in the Western Conference with 33 points. He has made 84 regular-season appearances since joining St. Louis ahead of the club’s debut MLS season in 2023, scoring 20 goals and producing 27 assists. Lowen has three goals and three assists this season.

He did not make his season debut until April after his wife, Ilona, died the previous month following a years-long battle with brain cancer.

St. Louis (9-6-6, 33 points) still has a DP spot available and is reportedly targeting a center forward during the transfer window that runs through Sept. 2. The club previously parted with Marcel Hartel while adding DP attacker Carlo Holse in July.
