Karmine Corp and Dplus will face off in the finals of the League of Legends event at the Esports World Cup in Paris on Sunday after winning their respective semifinals Saturday.
Karmine Corp pulled out a 2-1 defeat of T1, while Dplus outlasted Gen.G Esports for a 2-1 win. The two losing teams will open Sunday’s action with a third-place match.
The playoffs began Friday and conclude with Sunday’s best-of-three third-place match and best-of-five grand final. The winning team takes home $600,000 and 1,000 Esports World Cup club points. The MVP will earn an additional $25,000.
Karmine fell in a 1-0 hole in its match after T1 won the opener in 32 minutes on red. They rallied behind 30- and 38-minute victories, both on blue, to advance. Caliste “Caliste” Henry-Hennebert of France led Karmine Corp with the most kills (20) and fewest deaths (nine) in the match.
Dplus didn’t need to rally for their win, taking the opening game in 49 minutes on red and then coming out on top in the winner-take-all third game in 37 minutes on red after Gen.G leveled the score at 1-1 with a 41-minute triumph on red. Sin “Smash” Guem-jae led the all-South Korean Dplus team with a dominant showing, accounting for 26 of the team’s 56 kills and just five of their 42 deaths.
The Esports World Cup features competition in 25 titles and a $75 million prize pool. Other events this month include DOTA, PUBG, EA Sports FC, Call of Duty: Warzone, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Rocket League, Counter-Strike 2 and Fortnite.
