Demi Vollering of the Netherlands pulled off a solo breakaway during the final day of the Tour de France Femmes to win Stage 9 while clinching the overall title on Sunday at Nice, France.

Vollering became the first rider to earn two overall titles at the women’s version of the Tour de France, which was being contested for the fifth time. She also won the 2023 title.

Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney of Poland finished second overall, 1 minute, 18 seconds behind Vollering, while Elisa Longo Borghini of Italy finished third, 4:19 behind. Kristen Faulkner of the United States, who won the road race gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, finished 26th overall at 54:02 behind.

Vollering and Niewiadoma-Phinney were even on the final climb before Vollering attacked 800 meters from the summit. Vollering reached the summit alone and rode the final 15 kilometers alone to the finish in Nice along the Mediterranean Sea.

It was Vollering’s third stage race victory in this year’s Tour de France Femmes, and her fifth all time. She also won the hilly Stage 5 on Wednesday and Saturday’s flat Stage 8 that also finished in Nice.

Spain’s Paula Blasi Cairol finished second in the final stage, while Niewiadoma-Phinney was third.

Lorena Wiebes of the Netherlands, who won the first two stages of this year’s race, was the sprint champion, while Puck Pieterse of the Netherlands was the climbing champion. Antonia Niedermaier of Germany earned the title of top young rider (age 23 and under).
