OpTic Gaming finished the grand final strong and put away Team Heretics 5-3 to claim the Call of Duty Black Ops 7 title at the Esports World Cup on Sunday in Paris.
OpTic will take home the $600,000 grand prize along with 1,000 Esports World Cup club points. Team Heretics settled for $320,000 and 750 points for second place.
In a best-of-seven third-place match, 100 Thieves rallied from 3-0 down to stun Team Falcons 4-3 and secure 500 club points along with $210,000. Team Falcons received 300 points and remained in second in the overall club standings for the Esports World Cup at 2,900, behind only AG.AL International (3,350).
Earlier Sunday, OpTic Gaming got revenge on 100 Thieves with a 4-3 semifinal victory after they’d lost to that club during the group stage.
While 100 Thieves opened up a two-map lead by prevailing 250-129 on Scar Hardpoint and 6-5 on Den Search and Destroy, OpTic sprinted in front with three straight wins: 4-2 on Gridlock Overload, 250-173 on Den Hardpoint and 6-2 on Hacienda Search and Destroy. OpTic fell 3-2 on Scar Overload but won the do-or-die seventh map, 6-2 on Sake Search and Destroy.
Meanwhile, Heretics swept Falcons 4-0 in the other semifinal, winning 250-212 on Den Hardpoint, 6-5 on Fringe Search and Destroy, 3-2 on Den Overload and 250-233 on Sake Hardpoint.
The best-of-nine grand final saw OpTic take a two-map lead by winning 250-198 on Frequency Hardpoint and 6-1 on Sake Search and Destroy. But Heretics tied it with a 6-5 result on Scar Overload and 250-241 squeaker on Scar Hardpoint.
OpTic saw it through by winning three of the final four maps. They rolled 6-1 on Raid Search and Destroy and 6-2 on Den Overload, fell 6-4 on Den Search and Destroy and clinched the championship 250-183 on Den Hardpoint.
Team Falcons rang up a three-map lead in the third-place match (250-175 on Scar Hardpoint, 6-1 on Fringe Search and Destroy and 5-3 on Den Overload) only to fritter it all away. It started when 100 Thieves thrashed Falcons 250-103 on Den Hardpoint and 6-0 on Gridlock Search and Destroy. Then, a 4-1 result on Gridlock Overload evened the best-of-seven set, and 100 Thieves pushed it over the goal line with a 6-3 triumph on Raid Search and Destroy.
