Report: Extension-eligible Anthony Davis, Wizards wait on contract talks

Anthony Davis and the Washington Wizards are not rushing into contract talks as he became eligible for an extension on Thursday, according to reports.

The Athletic reported no significant talks toward a new deal have taken place before the two sides. CBS Sports reported Thursday the conversations are being tabled until closer to the regular season.

General manager Will Dawkins said during the NBA Draft that Davis wants to be in Washington, and “we want him.”

Davis has not yet played for the Wizards, who acquired the 10-time All-Star at the trade deadline after the 33-year-old logged 20 total games for the Mavericks.

While Davis watched, the Wizards have been plenty busy this offseason.

Washington re-signed point guard Trae Young to a four-year, $212 million extension and selected BYU All-American AJ Dybantsa with the first overall pick in the draft.

Davis averaged 20.4 points an 11.1 rebounds per game with Dallas in 2025-26 but was bothered by a leg injury.

Because of his production and tenure, Davis is eligible for a four-year, $275 million deal. Davis has a degree of leverage with a player option for 2027-28 worth more than $62 million.

The first overall pick to New Orleans in 2012, Davis spent seven years with the team before forcing a trade. He wound up with the Los Angeles Lakers as a co-star to LeBron James, before he was shipped to the Mavericks in the Luka Doncic deal in 2025.

A 52.2% shooter, Davis has averaged 24 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game in 807 career regular-season games.
