NFL News: Travis Kelce: Taylor Swift relationship won’t take focus off football

Despite the increased paparazzi and exploding social media followership, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce said he is not letting his connection with Taylor Swift distract himself from football.

Kelce’s budding relationship with the pop star has been one of the dominant storylines of the NFL season thus far.

“I’ve always been pretty good about compartmentalizing and being able to stay focused in this building,” Kelce said after Friday’s practice. “I think it’s always been that for me. No matter what’s going on in my life, good or bad, I think this is one place I can get away and just being locked in and focused and always check myself and my ego at the door and make sure that I come in with a clear mind.”

Kelce did say earlier this week that he believes the league is “overdoing it” with the amount of times Swift was shown on TV broadcasts when she attended the Chiefs’ last two games against the Chicago Bears and New York Jets.

“As all the attention comes, it feels like, you know, I was on top of the world after the Super Bowl and right now even more on top of the world, so it’s fun,” Kelce said Friday. “Everybody is having fun with it, you know, whether I think they’re overdoing it or not, you know, I’d know I brought this to myself or I’ve been fortunate enough to have fun with it, you know, and that’s where all that really matters is that it’s not pissing anybody off (in the Chiefs’ facility) at least.”

It was unclear whether Swift would attend the Chiefs’ game this Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings in Minneapolis. Her next scheduled tour dates are Oct. 18-20 in Miami Gardens, Fla.

“We’re learning with the paparazzi, just taking photos from all over the place,” he said. “But at the same time what comes with it, it comes with it. You’ve got a lot of people that care about Taylor and for good reason, so I’ve just got to keep living and learning and enjoying the moments.

“It’s worldwide, man. Everybody’s having fun with it.”

After missing the season opener due to a hyperextended knee, Kelce has played in the past three games — all Kansas City wins — and has caught 17 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns.

NFL News: Broncos trade LB Randy Gregory to 49ers

The Denver Broncos traded linebacker Randy Gregory to the San Francisco 49ers Friday.

The Broncos dealt Gregory and a 2024 seventh-round draft pick to the Niners in exchange for a 2024 sixth-rounder.

The Broncos had already decided to move on from the veteran pass rusher, with coach Sean Payton saying earlier in the week they would explore trade opportunities before releasing him.

“It was something that we felt was just best for our team right now, timing-wise,” Payton said Wednesday. “It hasn’t been finalized yet because typically before a transaction takes place, there may be some teams interested in a trade. … We felt like with some of our younger players and where we are going, it was best for our team right now.”

Signed to a five-year, $70 million contract prior to the 2022 season, Gregory recorded nine tackles and a sack in four games (three starts) this year for the Broncos. He is slated to make a $14 million base salary this season, with $5 million in 2024 being fully guaranteed.

Nik Bonitto, 24, replaced Gregory as a starter in Denver’s 31-28 victory over the Chicago Bears last Sunday.

Gregory, 30, has totaled 106 tackles, 19.5 sacks, 10 forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 60 career games (18 starts) with the Dallas Cowboys (2015-21) and Broncos. He was selected by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

CFL News: Argonauts hope to avoid letdown vs. Redblacks

With a place in the East Division final already assured, the first-place Toronto Argonauts aim to improve offensively Saturday night against the visiting Ottawa Redblacks.

The Argonauts (13-2) celebrated their 150th anniversary last Friday with a 35-12 home win over the Edmonton Elks.

Wynton McManis returned an interception 83 yards for a touchdown for Toronto. The play at 9:25 of the third quarter gave Toronto a 28-11 lead.

“It was huge,” said Toronto head coach Ryan Dinwiddie, who is also the team’s offensive coordinator. “I’m like, because I’m the play-caller, ‘Defense saved us again.’

“We’ve got to be better on offense but that was a game-changer right there. Big play by Wynton.”

Toronto quarterback Chad Kelly completed 11 of 16 passes for 165 yards before being replaced by Cameron Dukes in the fourth quarter. Kelly started Friday after Dukes and Bryan Scott took all of the snaps in the 31-21 road loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Sept. 29. Kelly was rested for the game.

“(Kelly) struggled at times,” Dinwiddie said. “You could tell he had a week off so I’ve got to see how I’m going to manage that moving forward. We’ve got to get him his reps to make sure he’s playing good football.”

The Redblacks (4-12) were officially eliminated from playoff contention Monday by a 29-3 road loss to the Montreal Alouettes.

The Redblacks will play the Argonauts twice to end their season.

“We have to come out and work hard,” Redblacks coach Bob Dyce said. “We look at it as a blessing and an opportunity to be on the field. Our goal from the beginning is to get better every single week, and we’ve got another opportunity to be better and to win a football game, so we’re excited for that.”

Since ending a seven-game losing streak with a 36-28 home victory against the Saskatchewan Roughriders Sept. 22, the Redblacks have lost two in a row while being outscored 61-18.

Among the Argos listed as out for Saturday are running back AJ Ouellette (healthy scratch), offensive lineman Dejon Allen (leg), linebacker Jordan Williams (calf), wide receiver Cam Phillips (groin) and defensive backs DaShaun Amos (ankle), Jamal Peters (groin) and Tigie Sankoh (hamstring).

The Redblacks will be without defensive back Brandin Dandridge (hand) and defensive lineman Nigel Romick (knee).

CFL News: With road win at Elks, Alouettes will lock up home playoff game

It comes with a caveat attached to it, but the Montreal Alouettes’ recent string of defensive domination is rather impressive.

As it prepares for a Saturday road date with the Edmonton Elks, Montreal (9-7) has won three straight, allowing only 29 points in that span. In Monday’s 29-3 rout of Ottawa, the Alouettes notched their eighth defensive touchdown of the year on Tyrice Beverette’s 35-yard fumble return in the fourth quarter.

“This is pretty special, what these guys have been able to accomplish,” first-year Montreal coach Jason Maas said of the defense. “It’s huge. It blows games open, obviously. Points are points. It doesn’t matter how you get them.”

The one qualifier to the Als’ current stretch of great defense is that the three wins have been at the expense of 4-12 Ottawa (twice) and 4-11 Calgary. In fact, Montreal is 0-7 against the top three teams in the league (Winnipeg, B.C. and Toronto) and 9-0 against everyone else.

If the Alouettes continue their trend of beating up on the weak teams this week, it will allow them to clinch home-field advantage for an East Division playoff game on Nov. 4 against Hamilton. They lead the Tiger-Cats by one game with two games left but have the tiebreaker by virtue of winning the season series.

As for the Elks (4-12), they are merely fulfilling contractual obligation, their playoff hopes having expired last week after a 35-12 loss in Toronto put them two games behind Saskatchewan with two games left and the tiebreakers against them.

Edmonton moved the ball well at times as quarterback Tre Ford threw for 220 yards and ran for 47. But he also tossed a costly pick-six in the third quarter.

“I thought we had opportunities today but we just came out in the second half and didn’t do well,” Ford said. “And a lot of that started with me as a quarterback. I just don’t think our offense executed at a high enough level.

“I threw a pick-six, which obviously doesn’t help when you’re trying to win football games. So a lot of it’s on me.”

This is the teams’ only meeting of the year.

JPMorgan Chase Beats Q3 Expectations

0

JPMorgan Chase (NYSE:JPM) posted Q3 earnings that surpassed Street predictions, driven by higher interest rates which counteracted reduced deposit balances. The adjusted revenue for the quarter was $40.7 billion, beating the expected $39.9 billion and marking a 21% increase from the previous year. This resulted in a net income of $13.2 billion, above the anticipated $11.9 billion.
CEO Jamie Dimon noted that their results benefited by net interest income and lower-than-usual credit costs. The net interest income grew by 30% annually to $22.9 billion, attributed to increased rates and higher balances in card services. Provisions for credit losses decreased by 10% to $1.38 billion.

BofA Securities Believe Nvidia Stock Can Surge 20 percent

0

Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) shares have recently witnessed a surge, growing around 15% over the past three weeks, benefiting by enhanced risk sentiment. Bank of America’s technical analysts are optimistic about the stock’s future performance. Nvidia reached new record highs in the middle of 2023, suggesting the potential for more growth. The stock has built solid support between $410 and $403, which coincides with the ascending 26-week moving average. Analysts are keeping an eye on the $481 peak from July.
Breaking past this threshold is crucial for maintaining Nvidia’s bullish trend. However, if the stock fails to surpass $481, there’s a risk of it developing a head and shoulders pattern spanning from July to October/November, as outlined by BofA technical analysts. They warned that if the stock drops below the $410-$403 range, it would confirm this bearish pattern, with the risk plunging to the late 2021 high near $346. If Nvidia’s stock can successfully breach the crucial $480 resistance, the analysts anticipate it might soar up to $580.

BlackRock Posts a 13 percent Surge in Q3 Profits

0

BlackRock (NYSE:BLK), the global leading asset manager, posted a 13% surge in third-quarter profits due to market recovery drawing investors to its offerings. The firm’s earnings stood at $1.64 billion, or $10.91 a share, surpassing last year’s Q3 results of $1.45 billion or $9.55 a share and beating analysts’ predictions of $8.26 per share.
BlackRock’s assets under management (AUM) reached $9.10 trillion at the third quarter’s end, marking an increase from $7.96 trillion the prior year, although a slight dip from the second quarter’s $9.4 trillion. Revenue rose around 5% year-over-year to $4.52 billion, a combination of organic growth, average AUM market fluctuations over the past year, and an uptick in technology service revenues. Wall Street analysts estimated AUM at $9.23 trillion and revenue at $4.61 billion.

0
