Today the two antiabortion activists who mounted a hidden-camera investigation against Planned Parenthood officials have been charged with 15 felony counts of violating the privacy of health-care providers by recording confidential information without their consent.

In announcing the charges against David Robert Daleiden and Sandra Merritt on Tuesday, California Attorney General Xavier Becerra said the duo used manufactured identities and a fictitious bioresearch company to meet medical officials and covertly record the private discussions they initiated.

“The right to privacy is a cornerstone of California’s Constitution, and a right that is foundational in a free democratic society,” Becerra said. “We will not tolerate the criminal recording of confidential conversations.”

Developing Story : Shots were fired this morning near the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. when a driver was taken into custody after allegedly ramming a police cruiser and trying to run down officers on foot. Suspect in Custody. The Rayburn House Office Building which was closed due to the emergency has reopened and tourists and visitors are continuing to move around.

At 9:22 a.m., Capitol police officers observed an “erratic and aggressive driver” in the vicinity of 100 Independence Ave, according to Eva Malecki, the communications director for the United States Capitol Police, who briefed reporters at Bartholdi Park.

As the officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver pulled a U-turn and fled the scene, apparently striking another vehicle and nearly hitting officers. A brief pursuit ensued until the female suspect was stopped at Washington Ave and Independence Ave, which is located near the U.S. Botanic Garden and the Rayburn House Office Building, police said.

The FBI is assisting Capitol Police at the scene.

FDA Approves Regeneron and Sanofi’s Dupixent for Eczema: Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and Sanofi said they will charge $37,000 annually in the U.S. for their newly approved eczema drug, a price the companies said they reached after months of negotiations with pharmacy benefit managers. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today approved dupilumab (Dupixent, Regeneron Pharmaceutics), a biologic for patients with moderate to severe atopic dermatitis – also called eczema – that spares them from the need to resort to higher-risk systemic immunosuppressants.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has denied a 2nd bid to list a bitcoin exchange-traded fund on the New York Stock Exchange. The decision, published today, presents the second bitcoin-tied ETF turned down by the SEC since the start of the month. Federal law requires their CEOs to personally certify that those reports do not contain “any untrue statement of a material fact.” Just as importantly, they must also swear that the reports don’t “omit to state a material fact” relevant to the company’s financial health.
