American, Southwest Not to Serve Alcohol Due to Passenger Disruptions and Assaults

0

Both American Airlines and Southwest Airlines have said that they have deferred decisions to serve alcohol on board their flights after a flight attendant was brutally assaulted on Sunday on a Sacramento to San Diego flight. This year there have been an estimated 2,500 reports of passenger misbehavior. About 1900 of them were travelers who refused to wear masks despite a federal mask mandate.

In a May 24   Lyn Montgomery, union president of Southwestern flight attendants, wrote a letter to the CEO Gary Kelley. It said that a woman flight attendant was assaulted by a passenger. She lost two teeth and had injuries on her face. She added that there were 477 passenger misconduct incidents in six weeks on Southwestern airlines flights between April 8 to May 15.

Montgomery added that as alcohol sales were added back, into the already volatile environment, she expected the management to understand their concern.

A Southwest airlines spokesman said that there was currently “no timetable” for the resumption of sale of alcohol. Earlier, the Dallas based airlines had planned to resume alcohol sales in its flights to Hawaii in June and for longer intercontinental flights in July.

American Airlines announced that it will not sell alcoholic beverages in the main cabin until the federal mask mandate is set to expire on September 13. However, in-flight alcohol will be available on first and business class.

Brady Byrnes, managing director of flight service at American Airlines said that they has seen that some of those stressors had created deeply disturbing situation onboard aircrafts and that the airlines would not tolerate “assault” or “mistreatment” of their crews.

Byrnes also said that they recognized that alcohol could contribute to atypical behavior from customers onboard and that they owed it to their crew not to potentially worsen what was already a new and stressful situation for their customers.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck rent a $130K/month Miami Beach Mansion

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are living together. As first reported by the New York Post, they have moved into a beautiful bay front mansion in Miami, Florida. Bennifer is back as a 2.0 version. Affleck had recently whisked away JLo in a private jet to Montana for a long break. After this break, the pair has been basking with joy in each other’s company.

Recently the New York Post reported on their living arrangements. The agency reported that JLo has rented an exclusive property for $130,000 per month. She moved into the property after her breakup with Alex Rodriguez. She broke their two year engagement after reports of his Face Timing reality star Madison LeCroy emerged.

Ben Affleck has been single from a while. He and Jennifer had been close in 2001 and split in 2003. Now, they are back together and according to recent photos and videos, they look happy together.

Julian Johnston, Corcoran Group has the list of the Miami beachfront property but refused to divulge details. The address is 2700 North Bay Road, Miami.

According to the list, the house has

  • 11 bedrooms
  • 12 bathrooms
  • 3 half baths
  • A pool
  • A dock boat lift
  • A guest house

The property is spread over 0.5 acres of land with 100 feet of water. Lopez has owned waterfront property at Miami earlier. She sold it Phil Collins many years ago. Renting property along the bay is sort off a homecoming for JLo and her relationship with Affleck is also sort of a homecoming too. Properties at the bay front are always in demand but have seen a recent surge with techies and finance leaders also grabbing up property as soon as it is available as it is always at a premium.

As of now Bennifer are living together in a calm and beautiful exclusive property that could be a soothing balm for JLo as she comes to terms with the breakup of a four year old relationship that not only affected her and Alex Rodriguez but also affected four children, two of hers and two of his as they had grown close, these past couple of years.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez became a couple, then split but remained friends and are back to being a couple. Hopefully, quality time in their relationship will be good for both of them. They have not as yet officially announced that they are back together despite several photos and videos from Montana to Miami.

Differential ticket pricing charges for vaccinated and non-vaccinated at Florida concert venue

The nation has rallied to encourage the younger generation and the vaccine hesitant with several incentives, schemes, prizes, lotteries, free passes, celeb endorsements, free food, free drinks and more. From President Biden to dating apps, many have put in extra efforts to motivate people to take the shot and safeguard the nation. There has been less encouragement from the GOP. However, one Floridian has creatively found a method to motivate youngsters who are disinclined to get vaccinated.

Florida Governor Ron de Santis recently signed a law forbidding the use of what are called “vaccine passports.” So, a concert promoter decided to innovate and found a way to motivate the young. He is offering differently priced tickets for concerts. The Tampa Bay resident is providing tickets at a discounted rate of $18 in exchange for vaccinations while tickets for those who have not been vaccinated cost $999.99.

Paul Williams of Lead foot Promotions in Florida wanted to plan a concert for people to enjoy themselves after the long and weary pandemic. He also wanted to promote vaccinations and came up with the above idea. He told ABC News that he wanted to get the “fence sitters off the fence.” He added that he wanted to get the kids that wanted to go to shows to go out and get their shots.

The concert, with the high and low priced tickets, is scheduled on June 26 and the venue is the VFW Post 39 in St. Petersburg, Florida. There will be performances from three punk rock bands:

  • Teenage Bottlerocket
  • Make War
  • Rutterkin

There are about 250 discounted tickets for vaccinated persons and 4 tickets at almost a thousand dollars each for the none vaccinated, which no one has bought as yet, according to Williams.

Ray Carlisle, singer and guitar player with the Teenage Bottlerocket band told Tampa ABC affiliate WFTS that they are all vaccinated and those they encourage everyone to get vaccinated so that they could see them at the pit.

Williams has received both bouquets and brickbats for his unique initiative. He said that he has not denied entry to anyone. He said that unvaccinated concertgoers could buy a full price ticket and they would be “treated like everyone else.”

Despite all these efforts, motivations and easy rollouts, while a large part of the world reels under the pandemic with insufficient vaccines, one in four Americans say that they are not inclined towards getting vaccinated, as per the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll.

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon tells HBS graduates ‘Life and business are about balance

0

On Thursday, Doug McMillon Walmart CEO addressed the graduates at Harvard Business School. In his commencement address, he spoke to them about capitalism, balance, investing in people and commitments to strengthen communities and the environment. He spoke on various issues that are relevant including capitalism, the company’s change in focus from shareholders to their connection to communities and the planet. The 54-year-old CEO, who is the current chair at the Business Roundtable, began his career at Walmart, when he was 17. The Arkansas high schooler loaded trucks at $6.50 an hour.

Some of the highlight of his distinguished speaker address to HBS students were the following:

  • It was a coin toss whether capitalism worked. The results were 50/50. Capitalism is imperfect because humans are imperfect
  • Companies should serve shareholders, invest in employees
  • There should be a balance in life and business
  • One should lean towards long term thinking
  • Investing in people, the community and the planet is smart business
  • Walmart is proof that a multi-stakeholder approach that has a longer-term bias leads to more valuable companies
  • Public commitments to social and environmental sustainability lead to permanent change in the company

Doug McMillon acknowledged that the Walmart of the 90s and the early 2000s was a different company. He said that their CEO Lee Scott helped them to change their mindset by listening to people, by reading books and by taking field trips.

He also said that the work in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans in 2005 was a “decisive moment” for the largest retailer in the nation. It led to change and Walmart has publicly committed to bringing about change in social as well as environmental sustainability. He added that they plan to be a global zero emission company by 2040.

McMillon also said that they would invest $100 million in a Center of Racial Equity. Walmart had also recently raised wages and has an average wage of at least $15.25 per hour for its U.S. workforce.

Jan 6 Commission passed by House: Blocked by Senate GOP

0

On Friday, Senate Republicans blocked the bill passed by the House to set up a commission to investigate the January 6, insurrection where pro-Trump protesters stormed the Capitol. Most of the Republicans are worried that a commission would continue into the next year and potentially affect their midterm chances. Some Republicans have also tried to dismiss the insurgency as if it never took place, while the Democrats are looking for a bipartisan commission to reiterate the role that the former president Donald Trump played in inciting his followers, without bias.

Both the parties had called for a 9/11-style commission, immediately after the riot. However, Republicans backed down from their earlier position as both the Minority Leaders in the House and Senate – Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McCarthy are rallying around the former president. The optics of the January 6 riot is an event that they are trying to avoid bringing attention to the midterms in 2022. Kevin McCarthy has reportedly made a few visits to Trump when he was at Mar-a-Lago, as he is looking for his support as Majority Leader, if the Republicans turn the House.

There were indications that the majority of the GOP would vote against the commission, as Mitch McConnell already made it clear with his hardline statements on Thursday. The family of Brian Sicknick, the Capirol officer who died on duty during the riots tried to lobby the Republicans but few of the GOP were ready to meet the family.

The Senate voted 54-35, six votes short of the required 60. The Republicans who supported the advancement of the bill were

  • Bill Cassidy – Louisiana
  • Susan Collins – Maine
  • Lisa Murkowski – Alaska
  • Rob Portman –Ohio
  • Mitt Romney – Utah
  • Ben Sasse – Nebraska

Republican Senator Patrick Toomey (R-Pa.) could not vote as he was away from Congress due to a family commitment. However, he released a statement saying that he would have supported the bill.

Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) asked the Republicans if Trump’s “big lie” would be dispelled if they voted for a bipartisan commission and if all the misinformation would be rebutted by a bipartisan commission. He also indicated that there might be another vote on the bill. The likelihood of an independent commission is now remote, but the Democrats can still decide on a select committee thought this could be called partisan.

How will OrganicGreek Vitamin C benefit you?

A healthy immune system is always a boon to humans as it fights against the myriad of infections that surround the world. Bacteria, virus, and other microorganisms are so tiny that they can only be seen   under a microscope. Some microorganisms are beneficial for humans while others are not. So how does one fight the harmful effects of these microorganisms? The answer is simple. By building immunity with OrganicGreek Vitamin C.

Healthy food, rest, cleanliness, and hygiene are the ways by which you can build natural immunity. Vitamins, minerals, and proteins present in food help to make the body stronger. Unfortunately, most of us eat good food but not healthy food. Eating several servings of fruits and vegetables per day does not practically happen. So, supplementation with vitamins is a good way to build immunity.

A lack of   vitamin C leads to a disease called scurvy. It was first seen in sailors who used to stay aboard on ships for weeks together without fresh fruits or vegetables. It was found that treating them with lemon juice reversed the condition. Currently, it is not seen in developed countries but is still somewhat prevalent in refugee camps.

Taking a single pill of OrganicGreek Vitamin C 1000 mg will boost your immunity and give your cells additional capacity to repair your tissues. Some of the major functions of Vitamin C in the body are as follows:

  • It is used to synthesize collagen
  • It is required for iron absorption
  • It helps in the general protection and health of cells
  • It helps to maintain healthy skin
  • It helps to maintain blood vessels
  • It helps to maintain cartilage
  • It helps in healing wounds

Ascorbic acid, another name for Vitamin C. is a water-soluble vitamin. So, if your natural intake of the vitamin has been sufficient and if you have also taken our supplement, there is no cause for worry as the excess amounts will be naturally excreted through the urine. However, if your diet is insufficient in Vitamin C, our OrganicGreek Vitamin C supplement will give an additional boost to your body.

When you consume foods with vitamin C, your body is able to replenish hyaluronic acid.  Hyaluronic acid  is responsible for aiding your joints and speeding up your recovery time. When you have optimal hyaluronic acid levels, you’ll produce more collagen, which in turn maintains your body.

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the recommended vitamin C daily allowance (RDA) for adults over age 19 is:

  • men, 90 mg per day
  • women, 75 mg per day
  • pregnant women, 85 mg per day
  • breastfeeding women, 120 mg per day.

Fruits with the highest sources of vitamin C include:

  • Cantaloupe
  • Citrus fruits and juices, such as orange and grapefruit
  • Kiwi fruit
  • Mango
  • Papaya
  • Pineapple
  • Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and cranberries
  • Watermelon

Vegetables with the highest sources of vitamin C include:

  • Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower
  • Green and red peppers
  • Spinach, cabbage, turnip greens, and other leafy greens
  • Sweet and white potatoes
  • Tomatoes and tomato juice
  • Winter squash

Huge $1.2 billion shock for AMC short sellers as stocks rally

As per data from S3 partners, investors who shorted AMC Entertainment, have lost an estimated $1.23 billion over the last week. Despite the pressure on the entertainment company due the coronavirus pandemic, the stocks have rallied more than 116 percent since Monday. The rally declined late Friday, after an almost 38 percent rise during early morning trading. The rate at close of trading was $26.12 per share, up from its $13.68 per share on Monday. The peak rate of the share was $36.72 per share.

FactSet said that its 30-day trading volume is a little over 100 million shares. However, on Friday, AMC stocks saw the most action on the New York Stock Exchange.

The entire company changed hands approximately one and a half times on Friday, with 450 million shares outstanding. The short covering could have contributed to the rally as AMC has 20 percent of its outstanding shares sold short. S3 partners said that other usual U.S. stocks have 5 percent short shares.

When a company with heavily shorted stock quickly soars in value, short sellers have to buy back borrowed shares, so that they can close out their short position, to cut losses. This buy back helps the stock to soar higher.

AMC’s new retail investors who own about 80 percent of the company’s 450 million outstanding shares as of March 11 are mainly those from Reddit forums and those who trade through the Robinhood app. It is their efforts that led to the January surge of the stock from $5 to $20. This gave the company the chance to decrease its debt by $600 million.

Although the movie theater business is slowly improving after the pandemic is subsiding in the U.S., with increased vaccine rollout and opening of places, events and more, AMC’s $1 billion in liquidity will keep it going through 2022, it definitely needs audiences to return in large numbers to theaters.

According to FactSet data, AMC had a market value of $751.87 on December 31, 2019. On Friday, May 28, 2021, its value was about $11.9 million. Although it has defied all the predictions by Wall Street analysts, these analysts are still somewhat skeptical about the future of AMC.

Inflation Fears Rise. Why the Biden Stimulus will help the Economy?

Prices of steel are on the rise while supply chains are experiencing shortages. There is a post COVID supply-demand crunch. Consume prices have risen 4.2 % in April compared to a year ago.

Personal income decreased $3.21 trillion (13.1 percent) in April according to estimates released today by the Bureau of Economic Analysis (tables 3 and 5). Disposable personal income (DPI) decreased $3.22 trillion (14.6 percent) and personal consumption expenditures (PCE) increased $80.3 billion (0.5 percent).

Real DPI decreased 15.1 percent in April and Real PCE decreased 0.1 percent; goods decreased 1.3 percent, and services increased 0.6 percent . The PCE price index increased 0.6 percent. Excluding food and energy, the PCE price index increased 0.7 percent

The decrease in personal income in April primarily reflected a decrease in government social benefits .Within government social benefits, “other” social benefits decreased as economic impact payments made to individuals from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 continued, but at a lower level than in March. Unemployment insurance also decreased, led by decreases in payments from the Pandemic Unemployment Compensation program.

The $80.3 billion increase in current dollar PCE in April reflected an increase of $112.6 billion in spending for services that was partly offset by a $32.3 billion decrease in spending for goods. Within services, the largest contributors to the increase were spending for recreation services and for food services and accommodations. Within goods, a decrease in nondurable goods was partly offset by an increase in durable goods. Within nondurable goods, the decrease was widespread and led by food and beverages. Within durable goods, the increase was accounted for by an increase in motor vehicles and parts.

Used car prices are up. The Fed says rates will not be raised until more people get back to work. With workers also demanding higher wages, businesses must raise their prices to meet these demands.

After the budget is delivered there will be a lot of activity in Congress as it begins voting on the 12 annual spending bills that are required to keep the government open after October 1, which is when the new fiscal year will begin. None of these bills have received bipartisan support, as yet.

The government plans to release the green book. It will detail all the spending, proposals and other related matters. However, it could create more conflict between the Democrats and Republicans. This was not released when Trump was the president.

Although President Biden has always looked for bipartisan support, the Democrats could use the budget reconciliation process to pass the budget. The 2022 midterms are drawing close, and the Democrats are looking to keep their lead and the Republicans are looking to get back control of Congress. Bipartisanship to pass the budget is a lofty goal. Whether it will be reachable after the hundreds of pages of the budget proposal will be unveiled by President Joe Biden, on Friday, remains to be seen.

NYC Whole Foods – There’s a mouse in your veal! Watch the Video.

A TikTok video shows a mouse eating veal in the meat case of Whole Foods in Columbus Circle, NY.

We have often heard of the line…”Waiter, there’s a fly in my soup.” However, on Monday,   a customer posted a video that showed a mouse in the veal at a New York City Whole Foods store. A mouse was caught on camera nibbling away at expensive veal that had been placed inside a butcher’s case. A customer captured the incident and posted it on a TikTok video on Monday. Needless to say, the video went viral with squealing viewers.

The mouse seemed to have excellent taste as it was biting tiny morsels of a raw slab of Osso Bucco veal, which retails at $22.99 a pound at the Columbus Whole Foods store. One customer spotted the mouse and made a TikTok video, which went viral.

Later, she posted the entire incident on YouTube. She said that she and her mum talked to the manager and that people said that it was like a Karen thing, but she said that it “was disgusting.” @DefineBritt, the person who posted the video also said that she never wanted “to set foot in this Whole Foods again.”

@definebritt

@wholefoodsofficials you doing bad guys not what I wanted to see today!!!!

♬ original sound – DefineBritt

A representative from Whole Foods told the New York Post that they were taking the incident “very seriously.”

The spokeswoman said that they immediately removed and threw away all the products that were present in the case. She also said that they performed a deep cleaning and brought in a third-party service for a thorough inspection.

She added that the store diligently followed their detailed protocol in response, and they continued to work closely with their safety team.

It is still unclear how a mouse could get into a butcher’s case and nibble away when the store was not empty but had staff and customers. Grocery store workers claim that mice are found in both high-end stores as well as in other stores. They generally enter premises in truck palettes. What is difficult to digest is how the mouse was merrily nibbling away at its meal of the moment and   no one including the safety inspection teams, the cleaning staff or the deli staff were unable to spot the tiny mouse. Action was taken only after it was spotted by a shopper, who posted the video which went viral.

When the Post asked Whole Foods for comment on Friday, there was no response.

Event organizers of the annual Robin Hood conference told CNBC news on Thursday that hip hop rapper Jay-Z would be addressing the A list of Wall Street at the conference. He is expected to address leaders about his business career. The virtual conference, a fund raiser for the Robin Hood foundation, is slated for the sixteenth of June.
