Celebrity Star K-pop artist Himchan makes suicide attempt after posting ‘goodbye’ message on Instagram

The pressure of fame is taking a toll on young performers in the entertainment industry. Celebrity Pop Star K-pop artist Himchan makes  a suicide attempt after posting ‘goodbye’ message on Instagram. Himchan said he blames his actions on himself when he was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in her 20s at a pension house in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province in South Korea in July 2018.

The celebrity singer Himchan was sentenced to 10 months in prison by the Seoul Central District Court and found guilty. In addition, he must complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment in a mandated program.

His June 13th post said “I would like to apologize to those who have believed and waited for me about all my actions so far. There are many reasons for speaking up late, but I kept quiet as there are a lot of articles and stories that are different from the truth.”

“I apologize for worrying you about various incidents. Also, I am aware of my negligence and mistakes, and I apologize for everything. I hope everyone is happy. Please forgive me for not being able to repay those who have believed in me until now. I apologize and sorry again. I hope everyone will be happy without any accidents. Goodbye and thank you for everything,” His suicide attempt was made after this post.

B.A.P music band debuted in 2012 and in 2019, Himchan left TS Entertainment. He released his solo single “Reason of My Life” on Oct. 25, 2020.  The following  day he was arrested for drunk driving in Gangnam, Seoul and was booked without detention.

Himchan is not in life-threatening condition and is currently resting at home.

Judge rules in favor of Texas hospital: Vaccine mandate for workers upheld

District Judge Lynn Hughes dismissed a lawsuit against Houston Methodist Hospital whose employees had sued the hospital over its policy of mandating COVID-19 vaccines for its employees. The lead plaintiff, Jennifer Bridges, who is a nurse at the hospital, and 116 others argued that if she was fired for refusing to get vaccinated, it should be considered as wrongful termination. The hospital had suspended 178 employees without pay as they refused to get vaccinated. The hospital asked the judge to dismiss the suit.

On Saturday, the Houston federal judge strongly ruled against the 117 hospital employees who brought a lawsuit to overturn a vaccine mandate, their suspension, and a future termination. The judge said that the argument that vaccines were “experimental and dangerous” was false and irrelevant.

He called her comparison of vaccine requirements to the forced medical experimentation on concentration camp captives by the Nazis, at the time of the Holocaust “reprehensible.” He also upturned the nurse’s appeal that mandatory vaccination for employees was coercion.

He concluded his ruling saying that the plaintiff Bridges could freely choose to accept or refuse a COVID-19 vaccine. However, if she refused, she would simply need to find work elsewhere. If a worker refused an assignment, changed office, an earlier time or other directive, the employee may be properly fired.

The judge also said a part of the bargain of employment included limits on the worker’s behavior for remuneration. He also quoted Texas law saying it protected employees from being fired only if they refused to commit an illegal act and that the requirement was consistent with public policy.

In December, the federal Equal Employment Opportunities Commission had reported that companies were legally mandated to expect their returning employees or new hires to be vaccinated to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

In April, the privately run hospital set a coronavirus vaccine requirement in its Houston, Texas hospital. Marc Bloom, the CEO of hospital systems, sent an email to employees saying that they should do everything possible as health workers so that they could keep their patients safe and at the center of everything they did and getting vaccinated was one such way.

A huge number of employees, 24, 947 of them, had been vaccinated and 27 of the 178 who had not as yet been vaccinated had received the first dose and would not be fired if they took the second dose. However, the hospital said that those who had not been vaccinated would be terminated.

In another memo, the CEO also called the lawsuit “frivolous” and said that the hospital was pleased with the ruling from the federal judge.

Reports say Covid restrictions to continue in England: Formal announcement by Boris Johnson awaited

0

Late Monday, Prime Minister of the U.K. Boris Johnson is expected to announce that there will be a delay in lifting the next level of restrictions which were to be lifted by June 21. This comes as the country is facing a surge of COVID-19 cases that have been spread mainly by the Delta variant, that was first discovered in India.

British media reports, including the BBC, said that senior ministers have signed off on this decision. The rules on face mask use, limits of people who could meet indoors were to be relaxed and there would have been a reopening of night clubs, theaters and more.

However, the current restrictions are most likely to continue up to July 19, according to reports. As of now, indoor gatherings are limited to six people and outdoor ones can have maximum thirty people. Work from home will also be encouraged wherever possible.

Public Health England (PHE) reported that the U.K. has 42,323 confirmed cases of the delta variant. This is a 240 percent increase from last week. The U.K.’s transmission rate is at its highest since the beginning of the year.

Although over 70 million vaccine doses have been given to citizens across the country, the virus spread continues as a PHE paper late May indicated that both Pfizer and AstraZeneca had a 33 percent efficacy after a single dose. About 80 percent of the population have taken a single dose. Scientists believe that a four-week lockdown could significantly increase the number of people who would take the second dose by mid-July.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Johnson told Sky News that he preferred to be “cautious” over lifting the fourth and final stage of restrictions in his lockdown roadmap. He said that the objective was to give the vaccination program the speed it needed to arrest the spread of the virus.

LA County coronavirus rules will ease June 15: Experts say don’t discard masks just yet

0

Health experts at Cedars-Sinai on tell Los Angeles County residents to still wear masks a while longer. “We should all keep our masks around for now, knowing that there may be some situations where we want to use them,” said Michael Ben-Aderet, MD, associate medical director of Hospital Epidemiology at Cedars-Sinai and an assistant professor of medicine.

These recommendations are likely to remain somewhat complex, because they’re based on multiple variables, like community prevalence of COVID-19, overall vaccination rate, level of risk and specific populations,” Michael Ben-Aderet, MD said.

Health officials say   people should wear masks for 15 months past the pandemic is a good idea. Even with COVID-19 cases being down, health officials still say masks have to be worn in hospitals, healthcare settings, for travel and in some workplaces.

“People who are vulnerable to infection even when vaccinated, and those people should continue to wear masks in crowded spaces and other higher-risk situations,” said infectious disease specialist Jillian Oft, MD, who works with Cedars-Sinai’s COVID-19 Recovery Program.

Those that had COVID-19 and are still experiencing the aftermath of certain symptoms should definitely be wearing masks to protect themselves.

Just this past weekend, Los Angeles County Public Health officials confirmed 191 new COVID-19 cases and five additional deaths.

There is no proof or evidence that getting the COVID vaccine would eliminate getting COVID again. However, doctors and scientists said that if you do get the COVID 19 virus again, the symptoms should not be as bad, and you most likely would not require hospitalization.

“Protecting L.A. County’s residents remains a top priority as physical distancing requirements and capacity limits are lifted on June 15,” Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said in a statement. “COVID-19 transmission that continues to occur among unvaccinated people is resulting in hospitalizations and deaths. While masks will not be required in many settings beginning June 15, face coverings remain an excellent means of protection for those not yet ready to get vaccinated.”

“Fully vaccinated people are the most protected, so we ask everyone eligible to receive the vaccine and are not yet vaccinated, to consider getting the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as you can,” Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer also said in a statement.

LA man spends $17.5 for sky message proposing to girlfriend and mocking Joe Rogan

On Saturday, a man from Los Angeles spent more than $17,000 to propose to his girlfriend. After his proposal was accepted, he sent a mocking message to Joe Rogan commenting on his height that he is 5’3 tall. Although his name has not been revealed but is said to be Mike, residents congratulated his fiancée and took to Twitter to praise the stunt.

The company called Sky Typers told The Wrap that someone had paid them 17,500 for 10 messages. According to its website the messages are written using a computer system which sends a signal to their planes smoke system.

This allows it to release a puff of smoke which forms into letters and the message appears on the sky. It remains readable for three to seven minutes. Each letter is 1,250 feet tall, which is the height of the Empire State Building in Manhattan.

The messages read

  1. “Will you marry me Mollie Pratt
  2. “She said yes”
  3. “I love you more than anything”
  4. “Excited to spend my life with you”
  5. “Until death do us part”

Etc. etc.

But the message “Joe Rogan is literally 5 foot 3” set Twitter abuzz, with some onlookers speculating whether it was a stunt by Rogan himself to promote his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience.

In a Wikipedia entry, someone wrote that he was five feet tall. The popular podcast host had then mentioned in a 2015 tweet that he was five foot eight inches. He has not addressed this latest height remark.

Rogan created a lot of discord when he said that young people need not get a vaccine. As an influencer, he came under fire for spreading vaccine hesitancy. However, the former Fear Factor host said that he had spoken out of turn as he was not a respected source of information and also called himself a “f**king moron” as he took back his comments.

What will he say to the LA man’s comment on his height? We don’t know as yet.

Blinken insists that China has to cooperate with world for probe into coronavirus origins

0

On Sunday, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken appeared on CBS’sFace the Nation”and said that the world is “insisting” that China should cooperate as further investigations have to be carried out to find the origins of COVID-19. An earlier probe, conducted by experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) was unable to pinpoint the origin of the infection which has spread throughout the world.

Blinken said that the main reason   to find its origin was to ensure that proper policies and mechanisms can be put in place to prevent another pandemic from taking over the world as the COVID-19 one did so as well as to prevent another major outbreak.

The Secretary of State said that transparency, access for international experts and information sharing “has to happen” and that countries are coming together to insist that it happens.

Last month President Biden has asked the U.S. intelligence community to redouble efforts and investigate the origins of the virus. According to Blinken, after the recent G-7 summit, the Group of Seven leaders were calling for a “Phase II” study from the WHO to trace the origins of the coronavirus and to find out “how the pandemic started.”

In March 2021, the WHO reported that its studies on the origins of COVID-19 showed that it was “extremely unlikely” that the virus leaked from a lab in Wuhan, China. However, some scientists and experts have raised doubts about the report.

A while ago, the New York Times broke a story saying that three workers from the Wuhan lab had been admitted to a hospital with symptoms similar to COVID-19 in November, much before the spread of the virus was confirmed by the Chinese.

The Biden administration later raised concerns about how sufficient information has not been disseminated and also about the lack of cooperation and transparency from China.

The Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that the U.S. government is working with the WHO and is working on the matter individually to understand what happened.

Congratulations From Around World as Bennett, Lapid Form Israeli Government ending Netanyahu’s 12-year rule

0

On Sunday, Knesset – Israel’s parliament approved of the formation of a new government which is a coalition of several diverse parties. The government was formed with a razor thin margin of 60-59 votes. The country has a new Prime Minister after 12 years, The vote finally removed the country’s longest serving prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu. It also spared the nation from a fifth election within two years.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is among the many who congratulated the  newly-appointed Israeli cabinet.

“On behalf of the UK, I offer my congratulations to @naftalibennett and @yairlapid on forming a new government in Israel. As we emerge from COVID-19, this is an exciting time for the UK and Israel to continue working together to advance peace and prosperity for all”, Johnson tweeted.

Wishes from Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, who congratulated Lapid on his appointment.

“Israel is a true friend of Ukraine, and I look forward to working together on further strengthening our partnership”, Kuleba tweeted.

Israeli tech millionaire and leader of right-wing party Yamina, Naftali Bennet is the new Prime Minister. He was received jeers from mainly Likud party members who called him a “traitor” and a “lair” as he has aligned himself with leftist, centrist, and Arab parties, instead of the right-wing Likud party headed by Netanyahu. Yuriv Levin, the speaker, had to remove more than four politicians for the ruckus and chaos that they created during the new Prime Minister’s address to the Knesset.

Addressing the parliament, a defiant Netanyahu accepted that his Likud party was now in the opposition though he added that they would be back. A continued fight by him is to be expected as the coalition is very diverse. Netanyahu also needs to be in power to fight several corruption charges that he and his family face. He also criticized the new legislation proposed by the government which would limit a prime minister’s term to eight years.

The new government, whose main uniting factor was the ouster of Netanyahu, has said that it would concentrate on social and economic issues including education, health. affordable housing and growing businesses rather than the divisive Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The coalition is fragile, and it needs to work unitedly as even one defection could have a domino effect and bring the government down.

Despite having a minority of six seats Bennet emerged as a kingmaker and got the coveted post of Prime Minister for two years. Yair Lapid, head of the centrist party Yesh Atid is the foreign minister till 2023. He has the   unenviable task of keeping the coalition together as it came into being mainly because of his efforts.

President Joe Biden congratulated Bennet and other leaders of the new government and spoke of strengthening all aspects of the close and enduring relationship between the U.S. and Israel.

President Joe Biden and the first lady Jill Biden at Windsor Castle to Queen Elizabeth II

0

After a successful G7 summit at Cornwall in Britain, President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden went to Windsor Castle to meet the Queen. This was the second time he was meeting her. According to his memoir published several years ago, the senator of Irish descent was told not to bow down to her, by his mother before he met her in 1982. He did not bow down to her in his second visit on Sunday, as well.

After his meeting he described Queen Elizabeth as an “extremely gracious” woman who reminded him of his mother. He also said that they had a great talk. This was the Queen’s first one-to-one visit with a world leader since the pandemic began and after the death of her husband Prince Phillip. It was an informal meeting over tea.

Earlier, on Friday, the Queen had attended a reception held at a biosphere in Cornwall. She had joined the world leaders after their G7 summit and had joked with them asking them if they were supposed to look as if they were enjoying themselves. There was also a photo of her talking to the Biden’s outside the domes and Prince Charles and his wife Camilla were in the background, holding drinks.

President Biden said that the Queen had asked him about Russian President Vladimir Putin, during their     personal conversation. He also said that he wished that he could have spent a longer time speaking to her, when he spoke at Heathrow, before he left for Brussels. The Biden’s were with Queen Elizabeth II for almost an hour.

He also called her generous and said that she reminded him of his mother “in terms of the look of her and the generosity.” He also said that he didn’t think she would be insulted by the comparison. When asked if he had invited her to the White House he answered in the affirmative.

Unlike recent former presidents Barack Obama and President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden is not an Anglophile, given his Irish roots. However, he was also charmed by the Queen and compared her to his mother, a fiercely Irish woman with the Irish surname Finnegan.

$5 billion IPO for Flying Taxi startup with blank cheque SPAC and backers Microsoft and American Airlines

On Thursday, Vertical Aerospace, a developer of electric flying taxis, announced that it would be going public in New York after merging with a blank-check Special Purpose Acquisition Group (SPAC). This is the latest in the listing wave to bring more than $5 billion in enterprise value to the stock market.

Vertical Aerospace is going to merge with Broadstone Acquisition Corp, bringing approximately $394 million in gross proceeds to the company as well as to become publicly listed on the New York Stock Exchange. On Friday, Broadstone shares traded higher by 0.5 percent and had earlier risen by about 3.5 percent in premarket trade.

The Broadstone deal should close by the second half of 2021. The group and its SPAC is valued at an enterprise value of $1.84 billion. The equity value is $2.2 billion based on a $10 per share price in private investment in public equity or PIPE.

Vertical Aerospace was founded by energy entrepreneur Stephen Fitzpatrick in 2016. It is a startup that is based in Bristol, England. It develops electrical vertical takeoff and landing aircraft. These planes have fixed wings but perform in a way that is similar to a helicopter.

The planes from Vertical Aerospace can work in an urban milieu. They can be used as taxis for passengers, for medical evacuations and to carry cargo. Its flagship VA-X4 prototype is a low noise and zero emission electric flying taxi. It will be able to take five passengers at a speed of more than 100 miles and a maximum speed of 202 miles per hour.

The company said that Microsoft’s venture capital arm, American Airlines, Honeywell, and Rolls Royce were among its first PIPE investors. It also said that it has almost 1,000 preorders from American Airlines and aircraft leasing company Avalon for a value of almost $4 billion. It has also received a preorder option from Virgin Atlantic.

Vertical Aerospace said that it would make a profit as well as have stable cash flow if it showed annual sales of less than 100 flying taxis.
