Apple CEO Tim Cook just celebrated 10 years selling three quarters of a billion dollars’ worth of stock.

Apple CEO Tim Cook just celebrated 10 years selling three quarters of a billion dollars’ worth of stock.  Apple (AAPL) is the world’s most valuable company, with a market cap of $2.4 trillion. Apple stock has risen about 11% in   2021 so far. In a recent filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) shareholders have been rewarded close to 192% from August 2018 to 2021.

Apple CEO Tim Cook just celebrated 10 years selling three quarters of a billion dollars’ worth of stock which equals a little over 5 million shares.

Cook has been well rewarded for running Apple with a substantial amount of Apple stocks rewards. Filings with the  US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) revealed he donated 70,000 Apple shares valued about $10 million to an unnamed charity.

Before Tim Cook worked at Apple he worked at IBM and Compaq. Cook was the first Fortune 500 CEO to come out as being gay.

In other Apple news:

Apple today announced a number of changes coming to the App Store that, pending court approval, will resolve a class-action suit from US developers. The terms of the agreement will help make the App Store an even better business opportunity for developers, while maintaining the safe and trusted marketplace users love.
Apple appreciates the developer feedback and ideas that helped inform the agreement, and respects the ongoing judicial review process.
The agreement clarifies that developers can share purchase options with users outside of their iOS app; expands the price points developers can offer for subscriptions, in-app purchases, and paid apps; and establishes a new fund to assist qualifying US developers. The updates constitute the latest chapter of Apple’s longstanding efforts to evolve the App Store into an even better marketplace for users and developers alike. Source Apple Investor Relations

Booster shots could be given in 6 months as hospitalizations due to the delta variant of COVID-19 surge

0

As the delta virus surges across the nation, hospitalizations have also soared and reached 100,000. This high level has been seen after little over six months as the last time there was such a high rate was on January 30, when vaccines were not easily available.

According to a Washington Post data base, the South has a higher rate of hospitalizations due to COVID-19, when compared with the rest of the nation. The maximum number of hospitalizations is in Florida. More than 17,000 people are in hospitals in the Sunshine State. Texas follows close behind with more than 14,000 hospitalizations. However, deaths are down at 1,100 when compared to the daily average of 3,100 deaths in January.

As Southern states remove mask mandates in schools, the number of pediatric hospitalizations is also on the increase. The current number of hospitalizations is 2,100 nationally which is higher than the number of hospitalizations in August 2020 which was 2000.

Amid all these cases, a person familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal those booster shots for all the three vaccines: Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson could be given after six months.

Last week, U.S. officials said that booster shots will be given to all by mid-September, eight months after the second dose. However, after reviewing the data provided by the major vaccine manufacturers, and studies conducted in other countries, health authorities are most likely to recommend the booster shots after six months.

Studies have shown that the immunocompromised require booster shots as they have few or negligible antibodies after two doses. However, the number of antibodies increases after the third or booster shots.

Studies have also shown that the efficiency of the vaccine decreases after six months and this could be the main reason why the government is thinking of giving the third dose or booster shot after six and not eight months.

Two weeks ago, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had given the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna third dose or booster shots emergency use authorization so that those who have weak immunity could get the third dose. Now, it may soon be available for all, six months after people have taken the second of Pfizer-BioNtech or Moderna or six months after they have taken the single dose Johnson & Johnson single dose vaccine.

According to reports in Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo is ready to leave Juventus. Earlier, Italian reports said that he had received a two-year deal from the City. Now, Portuguese reports say that the star footballer has agreed personal terms with Manchester City.

There had been doubts about Ronaldo’s future with Juventus this summer. His agent Jorge Mendes had reportedly flown to meet the Series A bosses, Juventus on Thursday morning, to discuss terms and a resolution.

Reports in Portugal suggest that talks are over with City boss Pep Guardiola. Talks are on about letting him leave, three years after he joined Juventus.

Italian reports, earlier in the week, had said that Cristiano Ronaldo had been offered a two-year deal and a remuneration of £230,000 per week by Man City.

Following Ronaldo’s lucrative contract, City has to negotiate a fee with Juventus but City is not willing to spend much as it has already offered the star forward a huge fee. It is looking for a free transfer. It has also been reported that Guardiola allegedly rejected the proposal of a swap deal for Brazilian footballer Gabriel Jesus as City was looking for a compromise.

The offer for Cristiano Ronaldo was made by Man City after striker Harry Kane decided to remain in London with the Tottenham Spurs, recently.

Reports say that Ronaldo earned more than £500,000 per week with Juventus. When he signed with the Series A giants in 2018, after leaving Real Madrid, it was for a huge payout. He scored 81 league goals in 98 games with Juventus. However, he now has less than a year left with the club, till the summer of 2022.

It looks like the Catalan manager, Pep Guardiola and the Portuguese professional football legend, Cristiano Ronaldo, will finally play together at Manchester City. Guardiola had often spoken of his admiration of Ronaldo.

Forbes to go public by a SPAC merger for $630 Million

0

Forbes publisher will be going public with a merger with a $630 million dollar valuation. There has been a wind of media companies consolidating and Forbes is doing it by merging with Magnum Opus Acquisition Ltd (OPA.N), a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC).

Forbes will trade on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol FRBS.

CEO Mike Federle will remain as CEO but new board members will be elected.

SPACs raise funds in an IPO with the purpose   of merging with a private company, which then  will go public. Magnum raised $200 million in a March IPO.

The deal lets Forbes  further capitalize on its digital transformation, Forbes Global Media Holdings said.

Other news media outlets also joined forces with a SPAC deal, such as BuzzFeed which agreed to a blank-check merger in June. Vox Media is also looking into  such a merger.

The Forbes company had a valuation of $475 million when Hong Kong-based investor group  when it merged Whale Media Investments bought a majority stake in 2014.

Forbes Magazine was founded in 1917 by Bertie Charles (“B.C.”) Forbes, a business columnist for William Randolph Hearst’s newspaper chain. The magazine was the only major business magazine in the United States throughout the 1920s. By 1930, two business magazines had joined the world of news publication- Business Week and Fortune. In  the 1930s and into the 1940s, Forbes magazine’s circulation numbers were falling behind its competitors. Working with his father, Forbes’s son Malcolm S. Forbes made many  changes in the mid-1940s , widening circulation, hiring a staff of writers to work exclusively for Forbes and starting the Forbes Investors Advisory Institute, an investment-advice service.

In 1982 Forbes launched the famous “Forbes Richest 400,” a list of the 400 wealthiest Americans.

Megan Fox agrees to settle $5M lawsuit with Brad Pitt’s manager

0

Megan Fox agrees to settle $5M lawsuit with Brad Pitt’s manager two years after she bought the mansion.  Mega fox currently lives in  Calabasas with her three children and husband   actor   Austin Green. Her rent   is $15,000 per month.

Prior to moving to Calabasas, she purchased a house from Brad Pitt in Malibu, California. The house was bought for $3 million dollars. When she moved in she was having serious headaches all the time. She claimed that the house had toxic mold, and this made her to feel not only sick, but stressed out.

Pett-Dante’s legal team reported in court documents that   Megan Fox’s lawyer did not believe Plaintiffs should purchase the Property and described the  house as ‘nightmarish’ and had a ‘cavalcade of deficiencies.” However, the Plaintiff removed their contingencies and agreed to move forward with their purchase.

Fox purchased the Los Angeles home  from Cynthia Pett-Dante in May 2016. Megan found mold and leaks, which required her to spend a lot of money in repairs that cost $500,000. Fox filed a complaint against Pett-Dante in Los Angeles Superior Court claiming   that the home had created had caused serious health issues for her.

Noted in the complaint, “She had done a lot of work to the backyard, upwards of $800,000 of work in the yard, to keep the animals because she rescues animals,” the court records read. “She had a bull when I saw the house. She had goats, llamas, chickens, pigs, and all of that work had been done on that slope, and I had been led to believe that it was legal, and that that was usable property.”

The  complaint against Pett-Dante in the $5 million lawsuit that the home had created serious health issues for her.

Court documents reveal – in her declaration that her body “metabolizes itself” adding, “I eat my own muscle proteins. I lose a lot of weight. I get very sick. So, it’s a cycle that’s stress-induced, and that’s what Dr. Burns treats… [Bon Kim] that’s a different type of medicine, so it’s not phrased the same way, but it’s again just treating symptoms of stress.”

“I knew there was mold. I had been exposed to mold before, and I was getting chronic headaches and having the same health issues,” she said. “Chronic migraines, like I mentioned, but it’s more of an endocrine system issue, where the constant stress or the excessive stress activates the adrenal glands, which sets off the pituitary and the thyroid, and for me that acts in an overactive thyroid.”

In the complaint it was noted:” She had done a lot of work to the backyard, upwards of $800,000 of work in the yard, to keep the animals because she rescues animals. “She had a bull when I saw the house. She had goats, llamas, chickens, pigs, and all of that work had been done on that slope, and I had been led to believe that it was legal, and that that was usable property.”

Los Angeles Judge, David Soleto ruled in an order filed earlier this month that Pett-Dante could review the judgment summary.

Megan Fox agreed to a settlement of $100,000 settlement under the California civil code 998, which means   either party can propose an arbitration settlement to the other in order to avoid going to trial.

The case dismissed with prejudice so Fox would refrain from appealing the ruling.

Sirhan, Robert F. Kennedy’s assassin seeks parole, prosecutors, family say no opposition from them

0

Sirhan B. Sirhan was sentenced to death for the assassination of 42-year-old Robert F. Kennedy (RFK). However, his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment after the laws in California were changed and the death penalty was abolished by the state. Now, the 77-year-old Christian born Palestinian from Jordan, is applying for parole for the 16th time on Friday and hopes to be released. The prosecutors say that they will not oppose his release.

Sirhan was arrested at the scene of the crime, the kitchen at the Ambassador Hotel, on June 5, 1968. He was convicted of first-degree murder. He was caught with a gun in his hand. In 1968, he confessed but years later he claimed that he didn’t remember the shooting. He has spent 53 years in a San Diego prison. The last time he had applied for parole, for the 15th time, was in 2016.

Robert Kennedy Jr. has supported Sirhan’s bid to be released. He visited Sirhan in prison in 2018 and believed that he was not responsible for his father’s death. Kennedy Jr. said that Sirhan had not killed his father but was set up. He wants   a new investigation to be carried out. In 2018, former Maryland lieutenant governor Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, RFK’s daughter had agreed with her brother’s calls for reopening the investigation of their father’s death.

Los Angeles County District Attorney has not as yet indicated whether he would reopen the case. It is not known, as yet,   if Sirhan will file an appeal.

Robert F. Kennedy is survived by wife Ethel and nine children. Most of the family declined to comment. They have not taken a position on the parole, nor have they requested to speak at the hearing.

LA County District Attorney told the Washington Post that the office would remain neutral. They would not attend the parole hearing, nor would they send a letter of support. The hearing by California Parole Board is scheduled for Friday at 8.30 a.m. at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility at San Diego.

New TikTok policies send cryptocurrency Influencers to rival social media platforms YouTube, Instagram, Discord and Twitter

In July, TikTok brought in a new system on its short video platform that automatically blocks videos that violate its policies. This has had a detrimental effect on many cryptocurrency influencers who use the platform to broadcast their views on the digital currency. This has made some of them consider leaving the platform as their videos are repeatedly getting taken down.

TikTok, whose parent company is ByteDance, recently brought in changes to its branded content policy. The updated policy does not allow users to promote financial services such as cryptocurrencies unless they disclose it through a special option for branded content in the app.

CNBC interviewed 11 cryptocurrency creators who said that their content was educational but was still getting flagged or was removed permanently by the app. TikTok gave little explanation for the reasons why it was flagged or permanently removed. These influencers also said that the number of views and new followers had also decreased, since.

Some of the creators said that they were considering a shift to other social media platforms including Google’s YouTube, Facebook’s Instagram and Twitter as well as chat app Discord. Most of the creators said that they made the videos for fun or to educate and they never explicitly asked users to buy a coin.

Some of them said that received payments that ranged from $300 to $20,000 depending on the number of people who followed them. They got paid in regular currency and sometimes got paid in cryptocurrency.

When CNBC contacted TikTok for comment, the company declined to comment but a spokesperson pointed the agency towards their community guidelines page. The spokesperson refused to say which specific guidelines were violated by the crypto creators.

Although these influencers are considering a move that will take them away from TikTok and towards the older video platforms such as Instagram, YouTube and Twitter, most of them agree that going viral overnight on TikTok is the ultimate. No other video platform can offer such a boost, to any influencer, as yet.

European Publishing Giant Axel Springer to buy Politico in a Billion dollar deal

0

On Thursday, German publisher Axel Springer announced that it would buy Washington D.C. based Politico, a popular U.S. digital media site. It will also buy the remaining 50 percent of Politico Europe. Although the cost of the deal was not announced, a person familiar with the matter said that the deal was at least a billion dollar one.

When CNBC requested confirmation of the cost of the deal, spokespersons from both the companies did not respond.

Axel Springer has a presence in the U.S. and is continuing to expand and invest in U.S. digital media companies. It is already associated with the following major publications or sites including Insider and Morning Brew, a newsletter publisher, in the nation. It also owns major news outlets such as Bild and Die Welt. Axel Springer has become a private company.

According to a press release, in 2014, Politico and Axel Springer developed a joint venture and debuted as Politico Europe. It became profitable in 2019. Now they are cementing the relationship further with the deal with Politico.

The press release also said Politico founder and publisher Robert Allbritton, would remain in his role at both Politico and Protocol, which is its sibling tech site. Axel Springer also said that Protocol and Politico – U.S. and Europe will maintain editorial and leadership independence from other U.S. brands under the Axel Springer Umbrella.

According to the New York Times, Springer’s CEO Mathias Dopfner noted that Politico was an “outstanding media company” and is known for its “disruptive digital political journalism. He said that the parent company would ensure that the D.C. site would maintain its “editorial independence” and would continue its “nonpartisan reporting.

Two sources also told CNBC that Axel Springer had also considered buying Axios, a rival of Politico but later settled with its 2014 partner, Politico, with whom it had been in talks since several months. The deal is expected to be closed before the end of the fourth quarter of 2021.
