Impossible Foods Chicken Nuggets Made With Plant Based Ingredients Scores  a  Big Win with Consumers

0

Seven out of 10 consumers prefer the taste of Impossible Chicken Nuggets over animal chicken nuggets from a leading brand based on blind taste tests; Impossible Chicken Nuggets scored higher in liking in every category, including flavor, texture, and overall appearance

Top chefs including David Chang of Fuku, Marcus Samuelsson of Red Rooster, and Sean Brock of Joyland will be among the first to feature the plant-based nuggets on their menus, in addition to notable chains and restaurants like Fatburger, Dog Haus and Gott’s Roadside

More than 10,000 grocery stores and supermarkets will carry Impossible Chicken Nuggets by year’s end, starting later this month with Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons, Safeway, and others.

“We are tremendously excited about our Impossible Nuggets. But this launch isn’t really about nuggets. It’s about the historic inflection point we’ve reached. For the first time, consumers unquestionably prefer meat made from plants instead of meat from an iconic animal,” said Pat Brown, founder and CEO of Impossible Foods. “In the battle for the future of food, this is the first time David has categorically bested Goliath, but it won’t be the last.”

David Chang’s fried chicken concept Fuku in New York City; Marcus Samuelsson’s comfort food eatery Red Rooster in Harlem and Miami; Sean Brock’s fast-food tribute Joyland in Nashville; Tal Ronnen’s Los Angeles hotspot Crossroads Kitchen; and El Alto Jr., a new family-friendly pop-up from Traci Des Jardins at the new State Street Market in Los Altos, California.

And for those concerned about the environment, Chicken Nuggets use 48-49% less land, 43-44% less water and generate 36% less GHG emissions than the animal version.

El Salvador adopts it as legal tender as Bitcoin Falls Below May Highs

0

Bitcoin retreated Tuesday after breaking through $52,000 Monday when it rose to its highest level since May.  The price movement comes the day after El Salvador becoming he first country to adopt the largest cryptocurrency by market cap as legal tender.

Businesses in El Salvador must now accept Bitcoin , due to  the new law. However, if  merchants are not set up to accept bitcoin, they  will be exempt. The government has installed 200 bitcoin ATMs around El Salvador.

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele announced the purchase of 400 bitcoins, worth around $20 million. Bukele has claimed the move would increase financial inclusion, investment, and economic development; however, there have been protests against it, with many saying they do not know how to use the digital coin, Sky News reported.

Co-Founder PowerTrade, Founder of http://Liquid.com, Former CEO, CPO of http://Liquid.com. Finance over 20 yrs of experience, ex Merrill Lynch, Credit Suisse CTO says on Twitter, “Felicitations to my brothers of El Salvador for the enormous achievement that is adopting bitcoin as legal tender. Today will go down in history as a major milestone for the country. There will be challenges along this new path, but they shall be overcome.”

FDA will examine COVID-19 booster shots data from Israel Health Ministry

0

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which is planning to start a booster drive rollout of COVID-19 third dose in the U.S., will examine data presented by the Health Ministry in Israel. Israel was the one of the first countries in the world to vaccinate a large majority of its citizens with the Pfizer-BioNTech two dose vaccine. It was also among the first to make the third dose or booster dose available to a majority of its population.

Sharon Alroy-Preis, who is the head of public health, at the country’s Health Ministry said that they had been asked by the U.S. FDA   to brief them about the third booster shot of the vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech. The virtual session will be conducted on September 17.

Alroy-Preis told Israeli Channel 12 TV news that they had been asked to come and present Israel’s experience and their data so that they could truly help the whole world to learn.

Last week, Israel said that people as young as 12 could get a booster shot in a new campaign. In July, the third booster shot rollout of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was given to the seniors in Israel.

The country’s health authorities said that the additional shot has led to a decline in severe illnesses that can be caused by the delta variant of COVID-19. About 2.6 million people in Israel have received the booster shot. The country has a population of 9.3 million people.

The delta variant is still surging across the U.S. and causing the highest number of daily cases and deaths since March 2021. Although a majority of the cases and deaths are seen among the unvaccinated, mainly in southern states such as Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina and Arkansas, there are breakthrough cases across the nation.

Pfizer has said that the efficacy of the vaccine decreases after six months. Hence, a booster shot will help fight variants better and-19 as Israel has said that the booster shot decreased the severity of COVID-19.

Apple cancels plans for new child safety tools after privacy backlash

Apple announced a new tool in August for combating child exploitation. The tool became highly critical when privacy implications came into play. Apple is now taking a step back on implementing the app.

Apple made headlines – and not the good kind – last month when it announced a test of a new tool aimed at combating child exploitation. Critics quickly decried the feature’s potential privacy implications, and now Apple is taking a long pit stop before moving forward with its plans.

Apple will be further testing the took and make a plan for relaunch.  Incused will be an op- in feature that warns parents of minor children about sexually explicit incoming or sent image attachments in iMessage and blur them. But the privacy concerns were high as Digital rights group Fight for the Future called the tool a threat to “privacy, security, democracy, and freedom,” and requested  Apple to remove the tool  permanently.

Director Evan Greer said in a statement, “Apple’s plan to conduct on-device scanning of photos and messages is one of the most dangerous proposals from any tech company in modern history,” “Technologically, this is the equivalent of installing malware on millions of people’s devices – malware that can be easily abused to do enormous harm.

Apple stressed that consumers’ privacy would be protected because the tool would turn photos on iPhones and iPads into unreadable hashes, or complex numbers, stored on user devices. Those numbers would be matched against a database of hashes provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) once the pictures were uploaded to Apple’s iCloud storage service as reported by CNBC.

Apple said that the system would only flag cases where users had approximately 30 or more potentially illicit pictures.

The app works with the Siri digital assistant for reporting child abuse and accessing resources related to fighting CSAM to scan devices operated by children for incoming or outgoing explicit images along with a new  feature for iCloud Photos that will analyze a user’s library for explicit images of children. If these pictures were discovered in their library, Apple gets alerted, do  a human review to verify the contents, and then report the user to law enforcement.

Privacy advocate The Electronic Frontier Foundation warned that the technology could be used to track things other than child pornography, opening the door to “broader abuses.”

Fuquan Johnson and two more dead from cocaine-laced fentanyl overdose, Kate Quiqley critical

0

Early Saturday morning, stand-up comedian Fuquan Johnson was found dead along with others who had not as yet been identified, reportedly along with comedian and model Kate Quigley who was transported to a hospital as she was in a critical condition. All four of them were found at a party in Venice, Los Angeles. They had ingested cocaine that was laced with fentanyl, according to a report from TMZ.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that there was a party at someone’s house in Venice, Los Angeles. Fuquan Johnson, 42, Kate Quigley and others had attended the get together. She had been dating Darius Rucker recently but the rep of Darius, the lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish said that he was not dating her and had not been dating her from some time. Pictures of them on her Insta page were up in May.

Law enforcement told TMZ that the property where the get together took place was owned by a few people and Quigley was a resident of what appeared to be an adjacent building that was next door to where the 911 call was directed.

Cops reached the property after midnight and found three were deceased and the fourth was close to being deceased. Three of them were pronounced dead at the scene and the fourth was taken to a hospital. There is no information about her condition, as yet.

TMZ said that autopsies would be conducted at the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office though the death was reportedly due to cocaine laced with fentanyl. The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the case and the homicide unit has been informed.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that over 83.000 people died due to drug related overdoses in twelve months ending July 2020, while the numbers were much less at over 70,000 in the previous year. Preliminary data also indicated that the number of cocaine-related deaths were 26 percent higher and most of them included lacing with fentanyl. Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid similar to morphine. This painkiller used to treat cancer and more. It is being misused with cocaine and is 50 times more potent when compared with heroin.

Newsom nationalizes California recall as he fights to retain governorship

0

On Saturday, both Governor Gavin Newsom and   Senator Elizabeth Warren made the September 14 recall election a national issue. Speaking at Culver City High School, Newsom warned the audience about the outcome of the state if Republican Larry Elder won the recall vote.

Newsom told the audience that they had seen the Big Lie, they had seen what had happened on January 6. He also reminded them that there have been voter suppression laws across the country and reminded them of what had just happened in Texas.

He said that although they had defeated Donald Trump, they had not defeated Trumpism. He said that it was still alive in the country and had come to the state of California. In his message he was warning the voters in the state that California could become like Texas and Florida if voters removed him and   put a Republican in his place.

Elizabeth Warren continued with the same theme on stage. She said that governors matter referring to the laws passed by Florida’s governor Ron DeSantis against mask mandates that lead to an increase in coronavirus cases and Texas’ governor Greg Abbott who made abortion laws extremely strict.

Senator Warren told the audience that if they worried about what happened in Texas or Florida or South Dakota and how it would affect the future of the nation, then Larry Elder as the governor of the state should absolutely terrify them.

She went for the punch line by mentioning that Larry Elder dreamt of being California’s own Donald Trump. She added that she didn’t know about the audience, but she knew that she would fight with everything that she had to prevent “one more Donald Trump Republican in office.”

Recent polls through summer showed that the Republicans were very enthusiastic while the Democrats had a luck luster attitude about the recall vote. Democrats, who prefer mail in votes, have already sent their ballots. However, Republicans tend to turn out in large numbers for in person voting and this could make it a close race.

This recall vote could be close more due to apathy from Democrats rather than popularity of the Republican candidate. So, the Democratic Party has brought out the big names to campaign for Newsom. Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to pitch in for Newson on Wednesday and the party is hoping that President Joe Biden will also make a trip to California before September 14.

Texas-based abortion tracking website dropped by GoDaddy web-hosting company

0

GoDaddy, a popular web hosting company, released a statement on Friday saying that it had informed the website prolifewhistleblower.com that it had 24 hours to move to a   different service provider, according to a report by CNBC. The website had been created to enforce the recent six-week abortion ban that was enacted by the state of Texas.

In a statement, the company said that it had informed the website prolifewhistleblower.com that it had violated GoDaddy’s terms of service. It told the website that it had 24 hours to move to a different service provider. The website apparently violated the company’s policy that forbids the collection of personal identifiable data “without prior written consent.”

The group that owns the website, Texas Right to Life also tweeted saying that @GoDaddy wanted to cancel their website and said that it was “too bad for the mob.” It said that they would not be silenced and that anti-lifers hated them because they were winning.

A spokeswoman for the group released the statement which said that their IT team was already in the process of transferring their assets to another provider. It also said that the site would be restored within 24-48 hours and asked viewers to “Come back soon.” The anti-abortion website allowed people to submit tips anonymously.

In an interview with Newsy on Thursday, Elizabeth Graham, who is the vice president of Texas Right to Life, said that the group was not looking for information on women who have abortions. It started the website to collect tips on doctors who were violating the law and the tips could be anonymous.

Earlier, the New York Times had reported that TikTok and Reddit users had filled the website with fake reports, to protest against the harsh laws on abortion that were passed by the state of Texas. The recent law, passed on Wednesday, bans abortions after six weeks, effectively barring about 85 percent of those who seek the procedure.

It also allows the public to file lawsuits against service providers such as doctors, clinics, cab drivers and anyone else who aids and abets the women, though the women themselves are not sued. The public, who files the case, can also collect approximately $10,000 from the lawsuit. It also doesn’t allow those who become pregnant after been raped or from incest to get an abortion after six weeks. Medical exemptions are allowed only when a pregnant woman’s life is in danger.

Donald Trump complains about losing Catholic and Jewish voters on call with religious leaders

0

On a recorded call with religious advisers, on Thursday, former President Donald Trump complained about the lack of support from Catholics and Jews in the November 2020 elections. He claimed that he had done a lot for both these communities, but they had not reciprocated by voting for him. He also continued to baselessly claim that he had won the presidential elections.

The call, organized by the Intercessors for America, a religious group, began with Paula White, who is his controversial right-wing adviser and a televangelist. Trump said that he did a lot for the Catholics, and he was surprised that they didn’t do better with the Catholic vote.

He said added that he thought that they got 50 percent of the Catholic vote, although they did a lot for the Catholic vote. He said that they’ll have to talk to them and that they have to meet with the Catholics.

He was also disappointed with the Jewish voters and reminded them that he was responsible for setting up a U.S. embassy in Jerusalem. He said that he had also done so many other things for them and that Israel never had a better friend than him and yet he got only 25 percent of the Jewish vote.

White and Trump announced a new National Faith Advisory Board which would consist of religious leaders some of whom were members on the call. This board is similar to his White House Faith and Opportunity initiative that he set up in the White House in 2018.

He criticized President Joe Biden’s record on religion, spoke favorably the Supreme Court’s decision about the Texas Abortion bill and complained about the rise in COVID-19 cases, forgetting that hundreds of thousands of Americans died under his watch. He conveniently forgot that Republicans states such as Florida and Texas were the ones who were against mask mandates and had low vaccines rates and had the highest number of cases due to the spread of the delta variant.

When asked about his religious beliefs in a question-and-answer session, he replied that it was all “based around God” and it was so important and that’ “God” was “so important to the success” of what they were doing.

Dallas’ Gateway Church pastor Robert Morris ended the call with a prayer, and he said that he prayed for all those Americans who had “voted the wrong way.”
