His manager has confirmed that Patton is seriously ill with AIDS in a hospital in Mexico. The 63-year-old was given just one year to live after receiving an HIV diagnosis on his 40th birthday in 1999, but he has managed to survive longer than expected. In December 1988, at the age of just 29, his boyfriend, Dallas actor Timothy Patrick Murphy, passed away from AIDS.

Mark’s manager Peter Valderrama, in his fundraising speech, said that 63-year-old Patton needs to be moved to an American hospital where he could receive more specialized care in a safer setting. For this, he said, they were humbly asking for assistance. Valderrama has now started a GoFundMe campaign in an effort to raise money to transfer the actor to an English-speaking hospital. As of Sunday morning, fans had contributed close to $30,000 against the $18,000 target.

Patton previously disclosed that he received his HIV diagnosis in 1999, the year of his 40th birthday. He lives in Puerto Vallarta with his husband, Hector Morales Mondragon, and they run an art gallery together. Patton, a regular at horror conventions, has had to postpone several appearances at the music box theater and horror house shop due to personal issues. He has now “decided to release his news in the hopes that his community could help him,” according to Valderrama.
