NFL News: Lions CB Terrion Arnold ordered held without bail in Tampa

Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold was ordered to remain in jail without bail at his first court appearance since he was arrested Wednesday in Tampa, Fla.

Arnold could be released as soon as Monday, when he’s scheduled for a pre-trial detention hearing. Prosecutors plan to ask the court to hold Arnold until a possible trial, the Hillsborough County (Florida) District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday.

Arnold is facing multiple felony charges tied to the investigation of an alleged kidnapping and armed robbery in February.

Tampa Police said Arnold turned himself in at the Orient Road Jail and faces four counts of kidnapping and four counts of armed robbery. The Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office said the charges carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison if Arnold is convicted.

Arnold’s representatives denied the allegations in a statement released Wednesday night.

“There is no credible evidence linking Mr. Arnold to these allegations,” said Denise White, CEO of EAG Sports Management. “Instead, the government appears to be relying on testimony from multiple convicted felons who have admitted their own involvement and may have substantial incentives to shift blame in an effort to lessen their sentences.

“Mr. Arnold looks forward to his day in court and is confident that the judicial process will lead to his ultimate vindication.”

The Lions also issued a brief statement.

“We are aware of the legal situation regarding Terrion Arnold,” the team wrote. “We will not comment at this time out of respect for the ongoing legal process.”

According to Tampa Police, the case stems from a Feb. 4 incident that occurred after more than $200,000 in cash and property belonging to Arnold was reported stolen earlier in the month from an Airbnb he had rented in Largo, Fla. Arnold accused his personal driver and two of the driver’s associates of involvement in the theft, which the driver denied.

Authorities allege Arnold and Boakai Eugene Hilton, a childhood friend of Arnold’s, coordinated with Arianna Del Valle and Jasmine Randazzo to lure one victim to an apartment, where three men in their teens were held at gunpoint, beaten, pistol-whipped and robbed. Police said investigators found that the incident was streamed to Arnold and Hilton while they were en route to the apartment, and that a group chat included Arnold and Hilton allegedly giving directions during the assault.

Investigators said Arnold suspected two of the three victims were involved in the previous theft of his cash and property, though police later determined they were not. Police accused Arnold of “coordinating and directing” the robbery and beating.

Del Valle and Randazzo reached plea deals Wednesday and agreed to testify truthfully in future proceedings, according to multiple media reports.

Arnold, 23, was selected by Detroit in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Across 24 games in his two seasons with the Lions, he has made 91 tackles and one interception.
