The San Jose Earthquakes signed goalkeeper Angus Gunn, the starter for Scotland’s World Cup squad.

The 30-year-old free agent, who previously played for England’s Nottingham Forest, is signed through the 2029-30 season and will occupy an international roster slot.

“We’re pleased to sign a quality goalkeeper in Angus Gunn with English Premier League and international experience, most recently as a starter at the World Cup,” sporting director and head coach Bruce Arena said. “We’re looking forward to integrating him into the club for the second half of the season and welcome him to San Jose.”

Gunn started all three group stage matches for Scotland, including a clean sheet against Haiti on June 13 for the national team’s first World Cup win in 36 years.

“It feels incredible to join the Earthquakes,” Gunn said. “Coming off the World Cup which was an unbelievable experience, I’m just really excited and grateful for the opportunity to come to San Jose and show the best version of myself. We’re in a really good position for the playoffs, so hopefully we can focus on that with the right mentality.”

At the club level, Gunn has made 198 combined appearances in England’s top two flights. The Manchester City academy product played for Norwich City, Southampton and Stoke City before signing with Nottingham Forest.

San Jose returns from the World Cup break on July 22 against visiting Orlando City SC.
