The Rangers added rotation depth on Monday by signing veteran right-hander Chris Paddack to a one-year deal.

Paddack, 30, elected free agency after being designated for assignment by the Cincinnati Reds last Wednesday and clearing waivers.

In 53 innings this season, Paddack had a 6.96 ERA, split between the Miami Marlins (seven games, six starts) and the Reds (six games, three starts).

Paddack was drafted in the eighth round in 2015 by the Marlins. In his eight-year major league career, Paddack has compiled a 4.84 ERA and a 32-43 record in 131 games (119 starts) with the San Diego Padres (2019-20), Minnesota Twins (2022-25), Detroit Tigers (2025), Marlins and Reds.

In other roster moves, the Rangers called up utility player Cameron Cauley — the Rangers’ No. 13 prospect per MLB Pipeline — from Triple-A Round Rock and designated outfielder Jarred Kelenic and right-handed pitcher Joe Ross for assignment.

Cauley, who has played across the infield and in center field in the minors this season, is hitting seventh and playing second base for his major league debut in Monday’s road game against the Cleveland Guardians.

Kelenic, 26, went 1-for-8 in seven games for the Rangers after starting the season with the Chicago White Sox. He’s a career .211 hitter with 50 homers and 160 RBIs across 433 games and six seasons.

Ross, 33, had an 0-1 record and 4.50 ERA in five relief appearances for the Rangers. He has a 31-36 career record and 4.38 ERA in 168 appearances (87 starts) over nine major league seasons.

The Rangers hold a half-game lead over the Mariners atop the American League West going into Monday’s games.
