Philadelphia catcher J.T. Realmuto bruised his left knee and left the Phillies’ Friday game against the host Miami Marlins, but the injury isn’t believed to be serious.
Realmuto got hurt fouling a second-inning pitch off his knee before delivering his second run-scoring single of the night. He stayed in the game until Garrett Stubbs replaced him as a pinch hitter with the Phillies holding a 7-0 lead in the fourth inning.
After the game, Phillies manager Rob Thomson said of Realmuto, “He’s fine. We’ll check him out tomorrow — it’s a contusion to his left knee. And Stubbs, he’s playing tomorrow anyway — that was planned. So it’ll be good for (Realmuto) to have a day off.”
Philadelphia won 16-2 to maintain its 7 1/2-game lead in the National League East.
An injury to his right knee kept Realmuto sidelined from June 10-July 19.
Realmuto, 33, is batting .266 with a .322 on-base percentage, a .425 slugging percentage, 12 homers and 40 RBIs in 86 games this year.
In his past 13 games, Realmuto is 17-for-48 (.354) with four homers and 12 RBIs.
