MLB News: Gavin Sheets’ 2-out, 3-run homer in ninth rallies Padres past Brewers

Gavin Sheets drilled a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning to give the visiting San Diego Padres a 3-1 comeback victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night.

Miguel Andujar ignited the rally with a two-out single off closer Abner Uribe (2-2), who came in for the ninth. Xander Bogaerts walked and Sheets then sent an 0-1 pitch 398 feet to right-center for his sixth homer.

Jason Adam (2-0) got the win with a scoreless eighth. Mason Miller finished for his 13th save in 13 opportunities.

Uribe blew his second save of the season one day after earning his fourth.

Brewers starter Jacob Misiorowski held the Padres to four hits through seven scoreless innings but while warming up prior the eighth signaled for a trainer, who appeared to be looking at his right leg. The team pulled him from the game prior to him throwing a pitch in the eighth.

After the game, Misiorowski said it was cramping in his right quad that made him leave the game. The flame-throwing righty, who struck out 10 on Wednesday, left his start on May 1 after 5 1/3 hitless innings with a right hamstring cramp.

“Probably the exact same (issue) as last time, but it was the quad this time instead of the hamstring,” he said. “Nothing we haven’t seen before. It’ll be fine. I’ll be ready to go.”

Aaron Ashby replaced Misiorowski and pitched a scoreless inning before the Padres broke through against Uribe to snap the Brewers’ five-game winning streak.

The Brewers snapped a scoreless tie with a small-ball run in the fifth off starter Michael King. Sal Frelick singled to open and Joey Ortiz beat out a bunt single. Frelick advanced to third on a fielder’s choice and then scored on Brice Turang’s grounder to first base.

Misiorowski has not allowed a run in 18 1/3 innings in three starts in May. He struck out 10 to increase his major-league-leading total to 80.

King was almost as effective as Misiorowski, allowing one run on six hits in 5 2/3 innings, striking out five and walking two in a 99-pitch outing.

Sheets was 2 for 3, while Fernando Tatis Jr. added a pair of singles.

Frelick had a pair of hits for Milwaukee and Luis Rengifo singled three times in four at-bats.
