The Houston Astros pulled shortstop Carlos Correa from the lineup about an hour before their home game Tuesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers because of a left ankle injury.

The injury reportedly occurred during batting practice, making it the second consecutive day that the Astros lost a starter during that session. Catcher Yainer Diaz sustained an oblique strain while swinging a bat on Monday and was placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday.

Houston manager Joe Espada said that Diaz will be out “a while.”

Nick Allen replaced Correa at shortstop after being activated from the 10-day injured list (back spasms) earlier in the day.

In other moves on Tuesday, the Astros recalled left fielder Zach Dezenzo and right-hander Jason Alexander from Triple-A Sugar Land, optioned righty Ryan Weiss to Sugar Land and designated left fielder Dustin Harris for assignment.

Correa, 31, is batting .279 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 32 games — 20 started at shortstop and 12 at third base.

Houston selected Correa with the first overall pick of the 2012 MLB Draft. He was the 2015 American League Rookie of the Year and collected the Gold Glove for AL shortstops in 2021.

The three-time All-Star is a career .275 hitter with 203 homers and 740 RBIs in 1,285 regular-season games for the Astros (2015-21, ‘25-present) and Minnesota Twins (2022-25).

Diaz, 27, is batting .248 with two home runs and 14 RBIs in 26 games. For his career, Diaz is batting .277 with 61 homers, 229 RBIs, a .303 on-base percentage and a .448 slugging percentage in 427 regular-season games, all with Houston since 2022.

Allen, 27, is batting .250 (5-for-20) in 14 games this season with Houston.

Dezenzo, who turns 26 on Monday, is a career .244 hitter with four homers and 18 RBIs in 53 games as an outfielder, third baseman and first baseman for the Astros from 2024-25.

Alexander, 33, appeared in one relief appearance for Houston earlier this season and allowed five earned runs in two innings for a 22.50 ERA. He gave up two hits and three walks in a no-decision at Baltimore.

Weiss, 29, is 0-3 with a 7.62 ERA, 20 walks and 30 strikeouts in nine games (two starts) as a rookie this season.

Harris, 26, batted .226 (7-for-31) with four RBIs in 11 games this season.
