FlyQuest had to work harder to beat Keyd Stars for the second time in the tournament and capture the grand final on Sunday of the League of Legends Championship of The Americas in Allen, Texas.
The 3-1 victory was worth $80,000 and earned qualification for the world championship in China. Keyd Stars collected $50,000 and also qualified for worlds.
Flyquest had posted a 3-0 sweep in the upper-bracket final on Sept. 20 to force Keyd Stars to advance to the grand final through Saturday’s lower-bracket final — a 3-1 win over 100 Thieves.
The season finale for Championship of the Americas (LTA) is a double-elimination tournament that featured the top teams from the North and South leagues based on previous tournaments. All matches were best-of-five with the top three teams qualifying for the world championship.
On Sunday, FlyQuest went up quickly, winning in 28 minutes on blue and 30 minutes on red. Keyd Stars came back with a 31-minute victory on red, but FlyQuest closed out the match with a 32-minute triumph on red.
Alan “Busio” Cwalina of the United States was selected the most valuable player of the finals. He had a 3-10-48 kills-death-assist ratio. For Keyd Stars, Pedro “Disamis” Goncalves of Brazil had an 8-14-25 K-D-A ratio.
