The news, first reported by Deadline in an Exclusive, said that Paramount Global, Paramount Network, and co-creator and showrunner Taylor Sheridan are considering ending their iconic show in its current incarnation. According to rumors, Kevin Costner’s character John Dutton in the television series Yellowstone’s fifth season, which is currently on break and will resume this summer, might be the character’s final appearance. But to continue the Dutton saga, a new show with Matthew McConaughey is in talks to star, and they are planning a potential franchise extension.

The series is about the Dutton family, who own the largest ranch in Montana, the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, which is the subject of the television show. Family strife at the ranch, as well as conflict with the nearby Broken Rock Indian Reservation, Yellowstone National Park, and developers, are central to the story.
According to Deadline, the 68-year-old actor had asked Paramount Network executives to permit him to spend just one week filming the fifth season’s second half while he works on his own passion project.

According to sources, Paramount Network turned down celebrity Costner’s most recent proposal and chose to move on to the other show. The prequel series 1883 and 1923 have been wildly successful, and there are high hopes for upcoming Sheridan shows, so the studio has more leeway and is less reliant on Yellowstone than it was two years ago.
