INDY News: Alex Palou takes home Portland title, grows IndyCar points lead to 110

Alex Palou seems to be on a rocket ship to his fourth consecutive IndyCar Series title, and few have any hopes of catching him.

The Spaniard won his sixth race of the season at the OnlyBulls Grand Prix of Portland, prevailing by 4.1167 seconds at Portland International Raceway on Sunday in Oregon.

Palou expanded his lead in the season-long points race to 110 points over Kyle Kirkwood — with only five races remaining.

“Everybody at (Chip Ganassi Racing) and Honda did an incredible job,” Palou said post-race. “I had an absolute rocket ship today. It was very, very nice to drive every single lap.

“Chip puts the best guys around me, but then also everybody is just executing. That car is a rocket ship, and I’m just lucky enough to drive it.”

Palou drove his No. 10 to a race-high 60 laps led and comfortably beat Felix Rosenqvist of Sweden, who started from the pole. Will Power of Australia, Rinus VeeKay of the Netherlands and Kirkwood rounded out the top five.

Palou alternated with Rosenqvist, Josef Newgarden and Power for the lead. He overtook Power on Lap 87 and led for the remaining 23 of the 110 total laps.

Power’s team tried to call him to pit road during Lap 86, but he stayed out for another lap, and his tires paid the price.

“I never heard (the call to the pits). I think I missed a call there,” Power said. “We certainly lost a lot on that next lap.”

Palou is contending for his fifth IndyCar Series championship in six years after prevailing in 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2025. Sunday marked his 25th career win on the circuit, which includes eight wins in 2025 alone.
