FIFA News: Brazil extend coach Carlo Ancelotti through 2030 World Cup

Brazil announced that coach Carlo Ancelotti has agreed to a four-year contract extension that runs through the 2030 World Cup.

The 66-year-old Italian took over Brazil’s national team in May 2025 after leaving Real Madrid and has led the side to five wins, two draws and three losses through his first 10 matches.

“I arrived in Brazil a year ago. From the very first minute, I understood what football means to this country,” Ancelotti told the CBF’s official website. “For a year now, we’ve been working to bring the Brazilian national team back to the top of the world. But the CBF and I want more. More wins, more time, more work.”

Brazil is currently ranked sixth in the FIFA Men’s World Ranking. They will play friendlies against Panama in Rio de Janeiro on May 31 and Egypt in Cleveland seven days later.

The team’s base camp will be in Morristown, N.J., with Brazil’s opening match in Group C against Morocco at East Rutherford, N.J. on June 13. That will also mark Ancelotti’s first global finals as a coach.

He has participated in the World Cup as a player and was part of Italy’s coaching staff for another. Ancelotti will also become the first foreigner to coach Brazil at a World Cup.

“Carlo Ancelotti’s contract extension represents another firm step in our commitment to providing the five-time World Cup-winning national team with an increasingly strong, modern, and competitive structure,” CBF president Samir Xaud said.

Ancelotti, who replaced Dorival Junior last year, is scheduled to announce his 26-player World Cup roster on Monday.

Brazil’s other group play matches will be against Haiti in Philadelphia on June 19 and against Scotland in Miami on June 24.
