NBC News published a long, personal essay written by Kim Kardashian. The 43-year-old star wrote about how she believes the Menendez brothers should be released and gave several reasons. Some of these reasons were that they had not received proper trials, that abuse of boys in the 1990s was not considered the same way as it is considered today, the complexity of the case, and more.
Kardashian said she met them at the San Diego Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility. The Menendez brothers, who are in custody at the facility, have earned multiple degrees during their incarceration. They have also worked as caregivers, looking after elderly incarcerated individuals in hospice. They also mentor inmates who are pursuing college programs.
On Thursday, Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon commented on the case. He said that the new evidence will be reviewed, and a hearing will be held next month. The November 29 hearing would decide whether the Menendez brothers’ case could get a new sentencing.
In 1989, 21-year-old Lyle and 18-year-old Erik fatally shot their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez. They said that they were afraid that their parents would kill them as they were about to expose their father to the long-term sexual molestation of his younger son, Erik.
