Spain narrowly escaped with a victory Tuesday in its Women’s World Cup semifinal matchup with Sweden in Auckland, New Zealand, and now awaits its opponent for the Aug. 20 final in Sydney, Australia.
Australia and England meet early Wednesday morning. Both obviously offer longer betting odds to win it all because each would need to win two matches; Spain has only one hurdle left.
Following Spain’s Tuesday victory, BetMGM listed the Spaniards as -125, with England at +200 and the host country Australia at +375.
Spain sent Sweden home in a stirring final few minutes that saw three goals scored after the 80th minute — two by Spain.
Spain and England were among the top betting contenders — along with the U.S. — prior to the tournament, with Australia holding anywhere from the fourth- to sixth-best odds among several sportsbooks.
In Wednesday’s semifinal, England is favored at +130 at BetMGM. Australia is given +220 moneyline odds to win outright, while a tie (which would require penalty kicks) is listed at +210.
