A Chicago woman has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals after she allegedly stabbed a Chihuahua several times.

61-year-old Jeanette Olivo was accused of stabbing the dog while the canine was out for a walk with its teenage owner in the Dunning neighborhood on Chicago’s northwest side, according to FOX 32.

The girl fled with her injured pet, but Olivo pursued them and stabbed the animal several more times, according to officials. Olivo fled the scene and dropped the knife about a block away, but the girl’s father apprehended her and detained the alleged attacker until police arrived, according to reports.

She was charged with aggravated animal cruelty and aggravated assault with a lethal weapon. She is scheduled to appear in court on January 4 at 9 a.m. According to police records, Olivo was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and battery on December 10 in an unrelated incident.

Bebe had several other stab wounds, one of which may have pierced the thorax. The dog’s other owner, Sergio Macias, stated that the suspect “needs to be in jail.”

On Monday, the Garrido Stray Rescue Foundation in Chicago took to Facebook to inform people that Bebe had recovered from surgery for a wound to the diaphragm. A representative of The Garrido Stray Rescue Foundation claimed that a police officer from District 16 informed them of the heinous crime.

On Tuesday, the organization issued another update, informing followers that Bebe’s recovery was progressing well, but that they should continue to pray for the dog.
The foundation expressed gratitude for all of the encouraging words, prayers, and generous donations that helped cover Bebe’s medical expenses.
