On Thursday, a savage pre-dawn stabbing killed a Brooklyn father and left his teenage daughter fighting for her life, according to the NYPD. The older sibling has been charged after confessing to the attack inside the family apartment.
According to police sources, Nikki Secondino initially blamed the carnage on a pair of home invaders who burst inside at 5:50 a.m. before killing her 61-year-old father Carlo and stabbing 19-year-old Liana. The 22-year-old transgender Nikki was suspected of fabricating the break-in story to cover up her own heinous crime.
Nikki initially told police that two black-clad intruders, one white and one black, fled the scene. Cops started looking for the suspects before her story unraveled and she became a suspect, according to police sources.
According to a police source at the scene, a window inside the home was broken from the inside, contradicting the story of a botched robbery. And there was no evidence of a break-in inside the apartment above a plumbing shop on 17th Avenue near 82nd Street.
Detectives discovered no video surveillance outside the home that supported the home invasion account, and Nikki had cuts on her hand consistent with a knife slipping during the stabbing. There was no large amount of cash or drugs found at the crime scene, and the victims have no criminal records.
When the story unraveled, the alleged killer was charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the heinous attack in which her 19-year-old sister was also stabbed. The sister’s condition is said to be critical; she is being treated at Maimonides Hospital.
Nikki was heard making a phone call in the hallway after the slaying, claiming the family had been robbed by home invaders who also stabbed them, according to a neighbor of the Secondinos. The terrified woman dialed 911 while hiding in her locked apartment.
Nikki’s father supported her transgender personality, according to Yadira Gomez, co-owner of Mike’s Diner, where Secondino worked as a deliveryman. Nikki smirked but ignored reporters’ questions as she was led out of Brooklyn’s 62nd Precinct on Thursday night.
