Sports reporter Adan Manzano was found dead on February 5, 2025, in a hotel room in New Orleans, where he had been covering the Super Bowl. Less than two days later, police arrested a suspect in connection with his death.
On Friday, authorities apprehended 48-year-old Danette Colbert in New Orleans. She was caught after allegedly using the sports reporter’s credit card at multiple locations in the city.
The Kenner Police Department released a statement confirming that Colbert was seen on security footage walking with Manzano to his hotel room at 4:35 a.m. on Wednesday. She was later seen leaving the room alone.
Colbert has been charged with fraud and theft-related offenses. According to the police statement, she is facing “property crimes, including fraud and theft-related offenses.” Authorities also revealed that Colbert has a prior arrest record for stealing money and credit cards, allegedly after drugging her victims.

The investigation into Manzano’s death is ongoing. The 27-year-old TV reporter missed his checkout time at the Contempra Inn in Kenner, prompting hotel staff to check his room. They found him unresponsive and face down on the floor.
Authorities reported no visible signs of trauma on his body, and no drugs or contraband were found in his hotel room.
Adan Manzano, a Kansas City-based reporter for Telemundo, was in Kenner covering Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Telemundo expressed their grief in a statement, saying, “We will deeply miss Adan and his passion for sports,” and extended their condolences to his family and friends. CWEB also offered its sympathies, mourning the tragic loss of a young life.
This marks the second major tragedy for Manzano’s family. In 2024, his wife, Ashley Boyd, lost her life in a car accident. Their young daughter, Eleanor, survived the crash.
