The New York Police Department (NYPD) are looking for a young woman who attacked two Asian women on a train during a subway ride. The incident began as a pointing and laughing one and anti-ethnic comments. It soon escalated to violence. The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is now investigating the assault.

Sue Young, who was one of the women attacked, said that her hair was pulled, her glasses were broken and she has been suffering from headaches from a few days, after the Thursday assault on the F train. She knows that the physical injuries will heal over time but the mental trauma would remain for a long time.

Young and her family were visiting New York City from Nevada. A woman and her friends kept hurling insults on them. When her husband asked them to use better words, that was the moment when the woman realized that her words were being recorded by another passenger Joanna Lin.

One woman among the three began to attack Lin. She grabbed her by the hair, threw her on the ground and punched her many times over. Young went to rescue Lin and the same teen attacked her as well.

Both the women were helped by bystanders to safety after the attack. The police have asked for information and have said that all calls would remain confidential.

The victims of the attack seem to think that it’s not a hate crime but is more like an underlying issue and not just law enforcement but also the community needs to hold everyone accountable.

Young and family expressed dismay that the video gave rise to anger against individuals as well as the Black community.

Sue Young questioned, “The girls need to understand that there’s accountability. There are consequences, but how do we provide consequences? Not something that’s just filled with just hate and anger.”
