Former U.S. Attorney Jessica Aber, 43, was found unresponsive at a residence in Alexandria, Virginia, over the weekend, according to local authorities. While an official cause of death remains pending, a source close to the family told CWEB News that Aber had battled a chronic medical condition.
The Alexandria Police Department responded to a call around 9:18 a.m. on Saturday regarding an unresponsive woman. Authorities confirmed the investigation is ongoing, with the Chief Medical Examiner’s office set to determine the final cause of death.
Aber, who served as U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia from 2021 to 2025, resigned on the day President Donald Trump assumed office. Appointed by former President Joe Biden and unanimously confirmed by the Senate, she oversaw numerous high-profile cases during her tenure. In her resignation letter, Aber called the role “an honor beyond measure” and expressed gratitude to colleagues and supporters.

Prominent figures, including former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, mourned Aber’s passing on social media. “The loss of Jessica Aber… is deeply tragic. Our hearts and prayers go out to her family,” Bondi wrote on X.

Aber began her career as a federal prosecutor in August 2021, earning bipartisan respect for her leadership in one of the nation’s busiest judicial districts. Colleagues remembered her as a tenacious advocate for justice and a mentor to younger attorneys.
