President Joe Biden delivered his second State of the Union address to Congress on Tuesday evening, marking the midpoint of his presidency. It was an opportunity for him to emphasize the accomplishments of his administration to date while also setting the tone for the next two or maybe more years.
The president sought to provide a reassuring appraisal of the nation’s state, stating that two years after the attack on the Capitol, democracy in the United States was “unbowed and unbroken.”
“The history of the United States is one of growth and resiliency,” he remarked, citing the country’s emergence from the COVID-19 pandemic as evidence of record employment creation under his presidency.
President Biden also highlighted areas in which bipartisan success was made during his first two years in office, such as the crucial infrastructure of states and high-tech manufacturing. Furthermore, he states, “There is no reason why we can’t work together in this new Congress.”
“The people have sent us a message. “Fighting for the sake of fighting, power for the sake of power, and conflict for the sake of conflict leads nowhere,” stated Biden. “This has always been my ambition for the country: to restore the soul of the nation, to rebuild America’s backbone – the middle class – and to unite the country.”

President Biden’s address was praised by Massachusetts senator and fellow Democrat Elizabeth Warren, who said it was “packed with economic policy to support working people and the middle class.”
The President’s speech was filled with economic policy to benefit working people and the middle class — from cutting junk fees and enforcing antitrust law to taxing billionaires and investing in child care.

Ameshia Cross, a Democratic strategist, lauded Biden’s address, stating that the president was able to cover all of his administration’s accomplishments, including infrastructure expenditures.
On Wednesday, he will travel to Wisconsin, a vital swing state that narrowly favored Biden in the 2020 presidential election. Then, on Thursday, he is set to visit Florida, a swing state that, according to experts, is becoming increasingly red under the leadership of Governor Ron DeSantis, a potential Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
President Biden is expected to reiterate the remarks he made in his State of the Union address and gather support for Democrats and a future presidential candidacy in 2024 at both stops.
