PGA News: Gary Woodland named to U.S. Presidents Cup staff

Gary Woodland is set to cap a triumphant year after he was named a captain’s assistant on the United States’ staff for the upcoming Presidents Cup.

Woodland, 42, is the fourth and final assistant, joining Jim Furyk, Keegan Bradley and Webb Simpson on the staff of captain Brandt Snedeker.

The U.S. squad is set to face a team of international competitors from outside of Europe from Sept. 24-27 at Medinah Country Club near Chicago.

Woodland won the Houston Open in March, his first PGA Tour victory since surgery to remove a brain tumor in 2023. Following the surgery, he experienced bouts of anxiety and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

The title at Houston came just weeks after he publicly revealed his struggles with PTSD.

“Gary has earned tremendous respect from his peers through the way he competes, leads and represents the game,” Snedeker said in a news release. “Having worked alongside him at the 2025 Ryder Cup, I saw firsthand the perspective, passion and team-first mentality he brings to the locker room, and I know those qualities will make him a valuable addition to our leadership group.”

Woodland has five career PGA Tour wins, including the 2019 U.S. Open. He was a member of the U.S. team that won the Presidents Cup in 2019 in Australia.

In 2025, he also served as a vice captain for the United States at the Ryder Cup.

“I was honored to get the call from Brandt to be a captain’s assistant for the 2026 Presidents Cup,” Woodland said. “Presidents Cup is a special event in our game, and having experienced it as a player in 2019, I know how much pride comes with representing your country and competing alongside the best players in the world.”
