Earlier, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said that they missed out on a lot of money due to its short run in theaters but added that it was a “promotional tactic like film festivals.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Hastings also admitted at a panel, in November that if this tactic “worked well” they would continue with it but reaffirmed that they were “not trying to build a theatrical business” but were “trying to break through the noise.”

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is a sequel to the Lionsgate film Knives Out released in 2019. The giant streamer reportedly paid $450 million to writer/director Rian Johnson and celebrity actor Daniel Craig for the rights to two sequels of Knives Out. Fans are super excited.

Glass Onion also stars the following:
Dave Bautista
Edward Norton
Janelle Monáe
Jessica Henwick
Kate Hudson
Kathryn Hahn and
Madeline Cline.

Glass Onion has been nominated for the Golden Globes in two categories:
Best picture (comedy)
Best actor (comedy)–Daniel Craig.

For those of us who miss Daniel Craig as the suave British spy James Bond, after he confirmed that he will not apprise the iconic role of Agent 007, seeing the celebrity actor as Benoit-Blanc in the murder-mystery Knives Out movies, is definitely a treat.

NCAAF News: Deion Sanders, Colorado nab sixth Jackson State transfer

A sixth Jackson State football player is headed to Colorado to join new coach Deion Sanders.

The latest transfer is kicker Alejandro Mata, and the school confirmed his signing via social media.

Mata, from Buford, Ga., put up 85 points for the Tigers (12-1) in 2022, converting 50 of 51 extra point attempts. He hit 12 of 13 field goals with a long of 38 yards.

Sanders’ sons — quarterback Shedeur and defensive back Shilo — also are moving on to Colorado, as are defensive backs Travis Hunter and Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig and offensive lineman Tyler Brown.

Sanders, a Pro Football Hall of Fame member, spent three seasons as the head coach of Jackson State, posting a 27-6 record. Sanders, 55, was named the Southwest Athletic Conference coach of the year the past two seasons.

NCAAF News: Ohio State RB Miyan Williams (illness) expected to play in Peach Bowl

Ohio State running back Miyan Williams is expected to play Saturday in the College Football Playoff semifinal, despite an illness that has kept him out of practice this week.

Coach Ryan Day said Williams is ready to return to the practice field.

“He’s got a stomach bug, and we expect him at practice today,” Day said Thursday. “We just gotta take it as we go.”

Day said the Buckeyes largely are in good physical shape heading into the semifinal, to be played at the Peach Bowl in Atlanta.

On the season, Williams leads Ohio State in rushing with 817 yards and 13 touchdowns. He has assumed the role of lead running back in the absence of TreVeyon Henderson, who had surgery earlier this month to treat an ongoing foot injury and is out for the season.

“That was the right thing for Trey,” Day added. “… All these guys have been preparing hard, and we have some good options.”

Limited to eight games because of injury, Henderson ran for 571 yards and six touchdowns. Dallan Hayen was third on the Buckeyes with 510 yards and five touchdowns.

Either Ohio State (11-1) or top-ranked Georgia (13-0) will meet the winner of the other semifinal game. Michigan (13-0) and TCU (12-1) are meeting Saturday in the Fiesta Bowl.

NCAAF News: Tyler Shough, Texas Tech take down Ole Miss in Texas Bowl

Tyler Shough ran for two touchdowns and passed for another as Texas Tech defeated Ole Miss 42-25 in the Texas Bowl on Wednesday night in Houston.

Shough completed 24 of 39 passes for 242 yards and rushed 25 times for 111 yards as the Red Raiders (8-5) won their fourth consecutive game.

Jaxson Dart passed for 361 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions and rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown to lead the Rebels (8-5), who lost their fourth straight.

The Red Raiders led 26-7 at halftime, but Dart threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Watkins on Ole Miss’ first possession of the third quarter. The score remained 26-13 through the end of the period.

Early in the fourth quarter, Shough threw a 36-yard pass to Jerand Bradley to set up SaRodorick Thompson’s 1-yard touchdown run that increased the lead to 32-13.

Texas Tech’s Trey Wolff kicked his third field goal, a 26-yarder, to increase the lead to 35-13 with 9:36 left.

Dart ran 9 yards for a touchdown and threw a 19-yard scoring pass to Malik Heath, who had eight catches for 137 yards, to trim the deficit to 10 with 3:10 left.

The Rebels tried an onside kick, but the Red Raiders’ Loic Fouonji, who also caught seven passes for 100 yards, returned it 44 yards for a touchdown.

Slough ran 2 yards for a TD that gave Texas Tech an early 7-0 lead.

Zach Evans ran 8 yards for a tying touchdown before Wolff’s 42-yard field goal gave the Red Raiders a 10-7 edge at the end of the first quarter.

Marquis Waters intercepted Dart, setting Texas Tech up at the Ole Miss 9 in the second quarter. On fourth-and-goal at the 2, Slough ran for a touchdown and a 17-7 lead.

Wolff added a 32-yard field goal before Dadrion Taylor-Demerson recovered Dart’s fumble at the Ole Miss 37.

Five plays later, Slough threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Bradley to increase the lead to 19 points heading to halftime.

NCAAF News: No. 15 Oregon nips UNC in Holiday Bowl on last-minute TD

Bo Nix tossed a 6-yard scoring pass to Chase Cota with 19 seconds left and Camden Lewis’ point attempt went through despite hitting the left upright as No. 15 Oregon rallied for a 28-27 victory over North Carolina in the Holiday Bowl on Wednesday night in San Diego.

Bucky Irving rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns for the Ducks (10-3). Nix completed 23 of 30 passes for 205 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Receiver Troy Franklin caught the other scoring toss for Oregon.

Drake Maye connected on 18 of 35 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns, while Power Echols had an interception for North Carolina (9-5). Kobe Paysour had seven catches for 98 yards and a touchdown and Andre Greene Jr. and Bryson Nesbit also had scoring grabs for the Tar Heels.

The Ducks trailed by 10 in the fourth quarter before staging the comeback in the final seven minutes in the first football game played at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres.

First, Nix connected with Franklin on a 6-yard scoring pass to bring the Ducks within 24-21 with 6:58 left.

Noah Burnette booted a 44-yard field goal to give the Tar Heels a six-point lead with 2:29 remaining.

Nix then guided Oregon on an eight-play, 79-yard drive and hit Cota on fourth down for the score. The point-after attempt by Lewis hit the left upright and went through the goal posts for the one-point lead.

North Carolina had one last possession and made it into Ducks territory. But Maye’s Hail Mary pass from the Oregon 41-yard line fell incomplete in the end zone as time expired.

Maye threw three touchdown passes in the first half to lead the Tar Heels to a 21-14 halftime lead.

Oregon struck first on Irving’s 2-yard scoring run less than four minutes into the contest. The Tar Heels knotted the score when Maye connected with Greene on a 6-yard touchdown pass with 4:37 remaining in the quarter.

Irving broke loose on a 66-yard scamper to give the Ducks a 14-7 advantage with 9:13 left in the half. North Carolina tied the score on Maye’s 14-yard pass to Nesbit with 4:34 remaining.

Echols made a key interception with 35 seconds left in the half on a play in which Nix’s pass intended for Terrance Ferguson hit the back of the leg of North Carolina’s Cedric Gray and the toe of Echols before the latter collected it and returned it 40 yards to the Oregon 49. Maye connected with Paysour on the next play for a touchdown and the seven-point lead.

The second half was scoreless until Burnette kicked a 19-yard field goal with 9:13 remaining to give the Tar Heels a 24-14 lead.

NFL News: Davante Adams: Derek Carr is ‘the reason I’m a Raider’

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams came to Derek Carr’s defense on social media Thursday, one day after coach Josh McDaniels said the quarterback would not start the team’s final two games of the regular season.

Adams wrote on Instagram that Carr, his former college teammate at Fresno State, is the primary reason he wanted the Green Bay Packers to trade him to Las Vegas.

“This man gave everything he had. The reason I’m a Raider,” Adams wrote. “…One of the most disciplined and loving people I know. Got my bruddas back through whatever.”

Adams added a middle finger emoji that was directed at anyone who “can’t respect it.”

A two-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowl selection, Adams was traded to Las Vegas on March 17 after spending the first eight years of his career with Green Bay. He was dealt to the Raiders for a 2022 first- and second-round pick and immediately signed a five-year, $140 million extension that keeps him with Las Vegas through the 2026 season.

Adams, 30, has 88 catches for 1,290 yards and an NFL high-tying 12 touchdowns in 15 games (all starts) this season.

McDaniels said Wednesday that the Raiders are eager to evaluate Jarett Stidham and outlined plans for the final two games, which include making Carr inactive on game day. Chase Garbers will be the No. 2 quarterback.

Further, Carr has stepped away — with permission — from the team to avoid being a distraction, multiple outlets reported later Wednesday. Carr won’t practice and will be listed as “not injury related,” per NFL Network’s report.

Carr, 31, signed a long-term deal before the season with guarantees of $40.5 million if he’s injured. The guarantee triggers Feb. 15, written in his contract as “three days after the Super Bowl.”

Carr has an NFL-leading 14 interceptions, including nine in his past five games. He was picked off three times in Las Vegas’ 13-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday.

Carr signed a three-year, $121.5 million extension in April and is under contract through 2025. But the Raiders would save $29.25 million by trading or releasing Carr prior to the deadline date on which his roster spot guarantees the next two years of his agreement. Carr does have a no-trade clause in his contract.

A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Carr has completed 60.8 percent of his passes for 3,522 yards and 24 touchdowns in 15 games this season.

NFL News: Packers look to keep playoff dream alive vs. rival Vikings

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook appreciates a good rivalry.

“It’s fun being a part of Vikings-Packers. … I was a part of Miami-Florida State, and Florida,” the former Florida State star said. “Now, I’m a part of Vikings-Packers. … You only get it once, twice a year. Maybe three. You never know.”

With Green Bay surging back to the NFC playoff race and NFC North champion Minnesota currently holding the conference’s No. 2 seed, Cook may yet prove prophetic.

Of course, Minnesota (12-3) could take a major step toward thwarting the Packers (7-8) and their postseason hopes when the teams meet in Green Bay on Sunday.

A Green Bay loss plus either a Detroit Lions win or a Washington Commanders win would eliminate the Packers from playoff contention. Green Bay would sneak into the postseason if it wins its last two games, as long as Washington loses at least once or the New York Giants lose twice.

The Packers enter Week 17 on a three-game winning streak, though the team hasn’t been at or above .500 since a home loss to the New York Jets in Week 6 brought Green Bay to 3-3. That defeat was the second in what became a five-game losing streak that put the Packers near the back of the playoff race.

During Green Bay’s 26-20 victory at Miami last week, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers passed for 238 yards (his highest total since Week 9) to go with one touchdown and one interception.

“Aaron’s making a lot of plays, and you can really see their passing game coming to life — both on schedule and off schedule,” Minnesota coach Kevin O’Connell said. “So, (it’s) going to be a heck of a challenge. They’re always so tough to play at Lambeau Field, and we’ve got to play a really good game to be competitive and give ourselves a chance to win.”

Rodgers, who has contended with an injured right thumb as well as sore ribs this season, missed practice Wednesday because of a left knee injury. He and the team anticipate he will play Sunday, however.

“Usually this is how it goes,” Rodgers said. “You’re dealing with something throughout the year whether it’s a major or minor. Always got to do the body maintenance.”

Minnesota counterpart Kirk Cousins was 34-for-48 for 299 yards and three touchdowns last week in a 27-24 home win against the New York Giants, the Vikings’ fourth victory in their past five games.

Cousins passed for 277 yards and two scores in Minnesota’s 23-7 home win against Green Bay in the season opener. He has thrown for 4,117 yards and 27 scores so far this season, marking the eighth successive campaign in which he has passed for at least 3,500 yards and 25 TDs.

Justin Jefferson, who had 184 receiving yards and caught both of Cousins’ touchdown passes in the season opener, surely will be a focal point for the Green Bay defense on Sunday.

Still, Cousins isn’t at a lack for other options in the passing game. He connected with tight end T.J. Hockenson 13 times for 109 yards and a pair of scores against the Giants. One week earlier, K.J. Osborn had 10 catches for a career-best 157 yards as the Vikings rallied from down 33-0 to stun the visiting Indianapolis Colts 39-36 in overtime.

Although Minnesota has yielded 11 sacks in the past two games, Cousins still has shown a penchant for staying poised. Jefferson, the league’s receiving leader, has gone for at least 11 catches and 123 receiving yards in three straight games.

NFL News: All eyes on Lamar Jackson as Ravens welcome Steelers

Will he, or won’t he?

That’s the question concerning Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson ahead of the Ravens’ Sunday night home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jackson missed his 10th straight practice Wednesday due to a knee injury that has kept him out of the past three games.

Without elaborating further, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he was optimistic that Jackson would play again this season. But missing the first practice in which the team formally introduces the game plan isn’t a good sign for a Week 17 return.

Jackson got hurt in Baltimore’s 10-9 home win against the Denver Broncos on Dec. 4, and he missed the last three quarters of that game. The hope was that he would return for the season’s first matchup with Pittsburgh the following week, but Tyler Huntley started that game, as well as the next two.

But the Baltimore offense has been a mere imitation of itself without Jackson providing electrifying runs and the occasional deep throw. The Ravens (10-5) have averaged just 11.5 points per game over the past four games, though they won three of those contests to seal an AFC playoff berth.

In a 17-9 home win over the Atlanta Falcons last week, Baltimore had 184 rushing yards — 99 from Gus Edwards — three short field goals from Justin Tucker and a defensive effort that kept the Falcons out of the end zone.

“To clinch the playoffs with two games left is pretty remarkable. It’s not something that’s done too often,” Harbaugh said.

However, if the Ravens are to do anything beside just making a playoff appearance, they probably will need Jackson on the field. Huntley has averaged less than 9 yards on his 61 completions, and his touchdown pass last week was his first in 91 attempts this season.

Meanwhile, the Steelers (7-8) remain alive in the playoff hunt entering Sunday but could be eliminated from playoff contention before kickoff if Miami wins at New England. Still, the opportunity to beat their archrival would provide enough motivation in case postseason hopes are snuffed out.

The Steelers are trying to finish on a high note and avoid a rare sub-.500 season. They rallied late on Christmas Eve to top the host Las Vegas Raiders 13-10 as rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett found fellow rookie George Pickens for a 14-yard touchdown pass with 46 seconds left.

It was the fifth win in seven games for Pittsburgh, which has only lost to the AFC North-leading Cincinnati Bengals and Baltimore in that span. Pickett missed most of the Baltimore game after sustaining a first-quarter concussion as the result of a hit from Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith.

Defense has fueled the late-season surge. The Steelers, who last finished a season with a losing record in 2003, have allowed just 17.4 points per game in the past seven contests, and that includes allowing 37 to Joe Burrow and Cincinnati on Nov. 20.

“We’re still in the hunt,” said defensive lineman Cam Heyward, the reigning AFC Defensive Player of the Week after collecting seven tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks and one pass defended against the Raiders. “I like to think we just keep getting better and better as the weeks go on.”

No. 25 North Carolina to test mettle vs. Blake Hinson, Pitt

There have been signs that No. 25 North Carolina is getting into a groove, and now after a more than a week layoff, the Tar Heels have another chance to show their improvement.

North Carolina will begin the sizable portion of its Atlantic Coast Conference schedule by visiting Pittsburgh on Friday afternoon.

“I feel like we’re in a great situation and our group is definitely battle-tested,” Tar Heels guard Caleb Love said. “It’s good for us when our back is against the wall and how we fight back. Anything thrown at us, we’re going to overcome it.”

North Carolina (9-4, 1-1 ACC) has won four games in a row. Pittsburgh (9-4, 2-0) will be playing its ACC home opener.

The Tar Heels have displayed a more intense nature in recent games.

“Motivating them to be at their best,” coach Hubert Davis said.

The Tar Heels began the season at No. 1, but they were all the way out of the rankings by early December following a four-game losing streak. They spent three weeks out of the poll.

North Carolina forward Armando Bacot has raised his level the past couple of games, averaging 27 points in those two outings.

“I think he has been at his best,” Davis said. “He’s playing with a hunger and a thirst. He’s really playing hard and getting the ball in the right position. He has been really special, not just offensively but defensively as well.”

Pittsburgh’s Blake Hinson received co-ACC Player of the Week honors for his efforts last week in an 84-82 victory at Syracuse. The transfer from Mississippi racked up 25 points and 13 rebounds to boost his team-leading averages in both categories (17.2, 7.4).

The Panthers, who also own an ACC road victory at North Carolina State, are riding a three-game winning streak.

“Nobody came here to be just 2-0 (in the ACC),” Hinson said. “This is what I envisioned when I signed up to play ACC basketball.”

Pittsburgh has racked up 10 or more 3-point baskets in five of its past seven games. The Panthers will turn attention to protecting the defensive glass after Syracuse had 15 offensive rebounds.

“We have to be better there,” Pittsburgh coach Jeff Capel said. “… We’ve continued to work and get better.”

The only common opponent for the teams is Michigan, which beat Pittsburgh 91-60 on Nov. 16 in New York and then lost to North Carolina 80-76 last week in Charlotte, N.C.

The Tar Heels pulled out a close game against Ohio State on Dec. 17 before upending Michigan in another tight contest.

“We trust one another to go ahead and make a big-time play when it matters,” North Carolina guard RJ Davis said.

Pittsburgh won the only meeting last season, topping the host Tar Heels 76-67 in a Feb. 16 game that at the time put North Carolina’s postseason prospects in serious jeopardy. After that result, the Tar Heels lost only once more until falling in the national championship game to Kansas.

Among Pittsburgh players from last season’s matchup, only John Hugley IV and Jamarius Burton played in the game in Chapel Hill.

Drew Timme scored 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds in just 17 minutes as the Bulldogs, in their final tune-up before West Coast Conference play begins, routed the Mountaineers in Spokane, Wash.

Timme moved into the top five on the school’s career scoring list with 1,826 points, and the Bulldogs (11-3) broke a school record for largest margin of victory. Their 70.8 percent shooting from the field tied for second best in program history.

TCU has won nine straight games, with a one-point loss at home to Northwestern State on Nov. 14 the only hiccup on its resume. The Horned Frogs scored 100 points for the first time this season, shot 52.1 percent from the floor, had 40 fast-break points.

Eddy Kayouloud led Baylor (5-8) with 14 points, with Carl Daughtery Jr. adding 10. The Bears shot just 29 percent from the floor and had 18 turnovers.

No. 20 Auburn 61, Florida 58

Behind a double-double from Johni Broome and a big second half from Wendell Green Jr., the Tigers rallied for a dramatic home win over the Gators.

A Broome dunk gave Auburn a 56-54 lead with 3:23 remaining in the game. With 1:14 to play, his layup put the Tigers back up 59-58. Florida had a chance to win with less than 18 seconds to play, but a Chris Moore steal sealed the victory for Auburn, which extended its home winning streak to 26 games.

Broome led Auburn (11-2, 1-0 SEC) with 14 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Jaylin Williams added 13 points. Green also had 14 points — 11 in the second half. Kowacie Reeves and Myreon Jones were terrific for Florida (7-6, 0-1 SEC) off the bench. Reeves had a team-high 15 points, and Jones added 10 points.

No. 22 Xavier 84, St. John’s 79

Jack Nunge totaled 23 points and 12 rebounds as the Musketeers built a big lead and held on to beat the host Red Storm in New York to extend their winning streak to seven games.

Xavier (11-3, 3-0 Big East) led for the final 35:20 thanks to an early 16-0 run before sweating out the final minutes. Souley Boum added 17 points and six assists, while Zach Freemantle contributed 14 and nine boards.

David Jones collected 19 points and 10 rebounds for St. John’s (11-3, 1-2). Joel Soriano and Montez Mathis added 14 apiece.
