Renowned TV and Radio Host, 87-Year Old Larry King Is Dead

Veteran radio and TV host Larry King, who hosted the popular show Larry King Live on CNN for decades, died this morning. He was 87.

King’s official Twitter handle had an announcement about his death on Saturday but didn’t mention the cause. Several weeks ago King had been admitted to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles with Covid-19 symptoms.

Ora Media made the announcement about his death calling him their “co-founder, host and friend.” He had co-founded Ora media, after he left the Larry King Live show on CNN.

Larry King has been battling several health ailments from decades. He has survived heart operations, cancer and was also diagnosed with diabetes. However, he battled through illnesses never losing focus from his role as host and broadcaster.

He was a born survivor and never allowed ill health or tragedy to stop him. He continued to release episodes of Larry King Now on You Tube. It is just two weeks ago that his most recent episode saw a   YouTube release.

He was always looking to work in his career that spanned over six decades and had announced plans to host podcasts in May, during the pandemic, as he saw the growth of this type of media.

Brooklyn born King began his career as a newspaper journalist in the late fifties. He moved on to become a DJ in Miami, Florida and the transition to TV host was his next step up the ladder of fame.

In 1978 he began hosting a nationwide show called Larry King Show, which he continued with, even after getting the immensely popular Larry King Live television show on CNN in the mid eighties. This show aired every night from June 1985 to December 2010.

His guest included politicians, celebrities, sportspersons and others. He believed that precise questions   got him the best answers. His interviewing style was direct and he usually asked small and simple questions. He always said that the true stars of his programs were those whom he interviewed though his name appeared in the shows’ titles.

He won two Peabody awards for his work in broadcasting. He was inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame and the Broadcasters Hall of Fame. He also played himself in roles in movies and TV shows.

He was married eight times. A few months ago he lost two of his adult children: daughter Chaia and son Andy.

Coronavirus can be sexually transmitted and have your testicles to swell so Big and lead to infertility study finds

While a majority of the infections result in asymptomatic cases, mild or moderate infection, a significant minority develops severe and even critical infection.

According to the Chinese scientists analyzed the output of 48 patients who had caught the illness — 18 who were still in hospital and 26 who had recovered already.

About 13% to 19% will need mechanical ventilation, and about 5% may die rather than recover from lung injury and accompanying multi testicle organ dysfunction.

Scientists say it suggests the bug can persist much longer in the testicles and could be spread later through sex.

Writing in the journal JAMA Network Open website, researcher Dr Shixi Zhang, from the Shangqiu Municipal Hospital, says “the survival of SARS-CoV-2 in a recovering patient’s semen maintains the likelihood to infect others and large testicle expansion”.

He added if bigger trials show coronavirus is passed on during sex, the recovering men should be encouraged to “abstain or use condoms” to prevent transmission.

Scientists have provided evidence Covid-19 could have significant fertility implications, in a study lead by Assam University and published by the Royal Society.

The study explains: “This may pose a global threat to male fertility potential, as men are more prone to SARS-CoV-2 infection than women, especially those of reproductive age.

Despite the lack of direct viral injury to the sperm-containing cells, the damage to the Sertoli cells and androgen-producing Leydig cells can cause the seminiferous tubules to atrophy, and eventually, cause reduced or no sperm formation in recovered COVID-19 patients.

The researchers comment: ”Our findings suggest that studies should be undertaken to find ways to mitigate the risk of testicular injury during the COVID-19 disease course. These findings can provide evidence-based guidance for sperm donation and inform management strategies to mitigate the risk of testicular injury during the COVID-19 disease course.”

Singer Adele 32 and CEO husband Simon Konecki 46 Reach Divorce Settlement After Two Years

Adele and her husband have finally announced that they have reached a divorce settlement after almost two years. The couple separated in April 2019. Five months later the singer filed for divorce.

Although it has taken time, this has been one of the most amicable settlements in personal and financial issues. Although the star has a staggering fortune of her own, her husband also had a small fortune as CEO of his self built Broker association.

They decided to use mediation to divide their combined properties and debts. The singer requested an LA court to keep the details of her divorce private and it was granted by the court.

On Friday January 15, the couple filed the terms of their settlement in court. They represented themselves and did not publicly disclose how the combined £140 million ($190 million) has been divided.

Sources and friends of Adele and Simon said that there never was a chance of acrimony. Despite having a son together, Angelo Adkins who is now eight, the couple grew apart after years of togetherness and were said to have a platonic relationship before their separation.

Adele has always led a private life, despite her public persona. She publicly revealed that she was married at the 2017 Grammy Awards as she acknowledged Simon as her husband, after she received the Album of the Year. Adele was in a relationship with Simon in 2011. In October, 2012 they were proud parents of a son named Angel Adkins. In 2016 they got married secretly. The couple had been married for three years.

They had split their time between houses in LA, Kensington – West London and Brighton. They had an “unconventional relationship” as Adele enjoyed being stateside while Simon preferred life in the U.K., with family and friends.

Since her separation Adele has lost over 100 pounds in weight and looks more gorgeous than ever. The Skyfall singer joked about her new look in SNL opening monologue saying: “I know I look really, really different since you last saw me.

“But, actually, because of all the COVID restrictions…I had to travel light and I could only bring half of me. and this is the half I chose.”

Senate Confirms America’s First Black Defense Secretary Retired General Lloyd Austin

0

On Thursday, the Senate confirmed retired Gen. Lloyd Austin as the defense secretary of the nation. This is the first time a black person has assumed such a high office.

In December, Biden had confirmed Austin as his choice for the post calling him a “true and tested soldier and leader.”

Austin has had a long relationship with Biden, both personal and professional. As the first Black commander of the US Central Command, he spent many hours with Biden, who was vice president when Obama was president, in the situation room.

Biden’s son, Beau Biden served on Austin’s staff in Iraq, when he was with the National Guard. Both of them used to attend Sunday Mass. Austin described Beau as a “very special person”   and a “true patriot.” He also described him as a “good friend.” Beau Biden died in 2015.

Lloyd Austin is a native of Alabama. He graduated from West Point the United States military academy. In 1975 he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the army. He served with distinction for years and was awarded a Silver Star in 2003, during the Battle of Bagdad.

He had an illustrious career and some of its highlights include leading the Army’s 3rd Infantry division as well as the 10th Mountain Division.

He led the XVIII Airborne Cops and commanded troops in Iraq as well as Afghanistan. He also became the first Black director of the Joint Staff at the Pentagon. He retired in 2016.

There were a few initial misgivings on his nomination which Austin sought to dispel in his confirmation address to the Congress. He sought to alleviate their concerns. Both the House of Representatives and the Senate approved a waiver that was required to clear him for nomination to the post. On Friday morning the Senate confirmed him as the secretary of defense. The voting was 93 -2 in his favor.

Covid-19 Pandemic Delays Release of James Bond’s “No Time to Die”

It is indeed ironic that the pandemic  which has caused more than two millions of deaths worldwide, has once again stalled the release of the latest James Bond film with the title “No Time to Die.”

The movie was to release on April 2, in theaters worldwide. On Thursday, the official 007 Twitter account announced that the 25th Bond film would now be released on October 8.

This film, “No Time to Die,” was first slated for an April 2020 release which got deferred to November that year. With the spike in coronavirus cases, the release date was pushed to April 2021 and the latest official announcement has spoken of an October 8 release.

No Time to Die” stars Daniel Craig as the suave British spy James Bond with Ana de Armas, Rami Malek and Jeffrey Wright. Ralph Fiennes and Lashana Lynch also play pivotal roles. Craig adds an earthy and rugged appeal when compared with the stylish and allegedly most popular Bond actor Sean Connery, who passed away last year.

The film is directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga. The screenplay has a host of writers including the director, actress Phoebe Waller Bridges and others. The famous Bond theme song will be performed by Billy Eilish.

Fox requested MGM, who will be looking after the North America release and Universal who will handle the international distribution for comments but did the companies’ representatives have not as yet responded.

The film cost will be around $200 million according to Variety. It needs to be a huge success internationally to recover costs. There has already been big budget spending on advertisements in the past.

Many theaters in America remain closed and few operate with limited capacities. This recent delay does not augur well for the movie though many other big budget movies release dates have also been delayed as a result of the pandemic.

Constitutional Republicans Who Impeached Donald Trump Are Already on The Chopping Block

0

Although GOP leaders are trying to move away from the horrifying events that unfolded after a pro-Trump mob attacked the Capitol, some big donors and Trump loyalists are trying hard to take revenge on the 10 Republican senators who voted for Trump’s impeachment.

Pro-Trump Republicans seemed to have adopted certain strategies to deal with the 10 Republicans who took part in the process. These loyalists are going ahead and launching primary challenges. Some of the former President’s donors are cutting these Republicans funds, while others are hatching plots to unseat them.

Trump may not have succeeded in overturning a free and fair election, but he has definitely succeeded in creating deep fissures in the GOP. There is a huge divide between Trump loyalists and those in the party who have been appalled by the Capitol riot and the assault on democracy by insurgents who behaved in such a horrific manner on January 6.

Two Republicans, who have faced ire from their supporters, are Rep. Liz Cheney from Wyoming and Rep. Peter Meijer of Michigan. Others have also spoken of contesting the primaries against the sitting Republicans.

Others who have faced Trump’s ire are Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski from Alaska and John Thune from South Dakota as they did not support him when he tried to overturn the election results.

Pro-Trump donors who say they will withdraw funds from these Republicans include Suzie Burke, a real estate executive and Hossein Khorram, a finance committee official from Washington State. Chris Ekstrom, chair of the Courageous Conservatives political action committee said that its members would work towards defeating these Republicans.

Pro-Trump loyalists will definitely face immense challenges as they try to remove popular Republicans who favored the impeachment.

The battle between the loyalists and the other Republicans promises to be a long-drawn ones with both sides suffering. Republicans know that they need the loyalists but many of them have been disturbed by the violence of the riot and so have the general supporters and well-wishers of the GOP.

FBI offers $75G reward for information on suspect who left pipe bombs in DC

0

On Thursday, the office of the federal authorities said that they would offer up to $75,000 for information on the person whom they believe was responsible for placing pipes bombs in Washington DC.

The official FBI handle took to Twitter not only offering a reward but also to ask for any tips that could lead to information about location of the suspect, or lead to their arrest and conviction, whether it would be a single individual or more than one person.

These pipe bombs were planted at the offices of both the Republican and the Democratic National Committee   offices on January 6.

On Tuesday, a law enforcement official told Fox News that finding the person who had placed the pipe bombs was “top priority” before the inauguration on Wednesday.

On Wednesday around 12.45 p.m. a call was made from the Republican National Committee’s (RNC) office that a pipe bomb had been found outside. A team of agents and explosive experts from agencies including the Capitol Police, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives went to investigate the site.

About half an hour later, when the investigation team was still at the RNC HQ, another call was received by the Capitol Police and its teams that a similar bomb was found near the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) office.

Two law enforcement officials told the Associated Press that both the explosives found outside the RNC and DNC were similar. They were about a foot long. They had end caps and their wiring had been attached to a timer.

A suspect’s images have been released. The image shows a person wearing a grey-colored sweatshirt with a hoodie covering their head. The pants are dark colored, and the shoes are a combination of white and a dark color. The suspect seems to be holding a knapsack.

If you have any information concerning these incidents, please contact the FBI’s toll-free tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324), or submit tips online at  fbi.gov/USCapitol. You may also contact your  local FBI office  or the nearest  American Embassy or Consulate.

George R. R. Martin’s prequel that chronicles the happenings before the Game of Thrones is set to be adapted by HBO and is in early stages of development according to Variety. Though initial casting: writing or acting has not yet started, the TV adaptation is scheduled to appear in 2022.

R. R. Martin, the 72-year-old American GoT writer, has written a trilogy of novellas called the Tales of Dunk and Egg. They include the following: The Hedge Knight published in 1998, The Sworn Sword published in 2003 and The Mystery Knight published in 2010.

These novellas chronicle events set hundred years before the happenings that take place in A Song of Ice and Fire and was published together as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

The first season could have 10 episodes. The writing will begin in January, while the casting will be deferred to July. Only one cast member, Paddy Considine, has been confirmed. He will continue to portray the role of King Viserys Targaryen in this series as well.

The prequel was first reported by Deadline. It said that it would be a collaboration between the series creator and Colony co-creator Ryan Condal, with inputs from Michael Sapochnik.

Jason Kilar, Warner Media CEO, recently released a statement detailing the company’s collaboration with HBO Max last month. He had also shared updates about the filming of this series. He had mentioned that the principal photography would begin in a few months.

Although the show would have a similar set, depicting the same world of the original, there will be conceptual changes as it is a prequel that is dated 300 years before the original. The series will showcase the journey of the House of Targaryen as it rises to power in Westeros.

Game of Thrones fans now have two series to look forward to, in 2022, the first being the House of Dragon, followed by Tales of Dunk and Egg.

A Vision in White: Kate Perry’s Thom Browne Outfit Add Style as She Lights Up the Inauguration Visually and Vocally

Kate Perry set the audience ablaze as she belted out her song “Firework” in her performance at Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20, 2021.

Tom Hanks hosted a star-studded primetime special. She closed out the show with her performance of “Firework” looking brilliant in white against scintillating multi-colored fireworks in the background. The galaxy of stars who performed included Justin Timberlake, The Boss – Bruce Springsteen and John Legend.

The “Never Wore White” singer was dressed in an all-white chic ensemble by New York designer Thom Browne. He designed a collection of separates that melded together to form a unique outfit that was quite unlike anything the singer has ever worn.

It consisted of a cashmere coat with a corset and a full-length skirt, both of which were made using silk satin and flowed beautifully. Her makeup included dramatic red lipstick. She accessorized her outfit with a pair of diamond earrings which were heart shaped.

The white ensemble was likened to a symbolism of purity as well as the suffrage movement. The blue and red buttons on the sleeves and skirt in her outfit were a subtle nod to the colors of the American flag.

Brown had said that he had gone for a sophisticated and subtle look while dressing the star. He said that he wanted her overwhelming talent to be the focus. His creation was a perfect backdrop to that focus as the star looked stunning in this subtle outfit which blended well with her signature blond crop of hair.

Kate Perry is known for the exaggerated and dramatic ensembles she wears on the red carpet, for high profile performances or for product or label launches. This subtle look for a memorable inauguration has been well appreciated by fans and guests alike.

French Publishers Will Get Paid for News Content by Google: Stocks Rise

After several rounds of talks between Google and France’s Alliance de la Presse d’Information Generale, both parties have come to an agreement. French publishers will be paid by Google for their news content. Google stocks rose by 2.2%

After months of negotiations, the tech giant can conduct individual negotiations with alliance members and get news licenses.

Payments would be made depending on several factors. Some of the factors include:

  • The genre of the information such as general, political and more
  • Their daily publication volumes
  • The monthly internet readers or viewers

Europe has been dealing with the issue of paid content from several months. Google has already reached basic agreements with Germany, Brazil and Australia for paid news deals. This deal has come in good time as French courts are in pursuit of a verdict on the European Union’s “neighboring right.”

This directive allows publishers to demand a fee from online platforms who use their news snippets.

This right is a part of the deal. Another aspect of the deal will be including publishers to be a part of a new “News Showcase”, which is a mobile service that Google has added to its platform.

Pierre Louette, CEO, Les Echos says that this agreement is an important step that has come to fruition after several, long months of negotiations. He believes that it marks an effective recognition of the neighboring right of press publishers. He believes that this agreement will be the beginning of press publishers getting remuneration from the digital platforms for using their content on online publications.

Social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Google have published content from newspapers and media houses as part of their platforms and earned revenue without sharing it with the original publishers in the past.

The “neighboring right” will deal with this practice in a more equitable manner.
