Fissures appear in GOP Arizona: Members censure Governor and two other senior members ” Governor Doug Ducey, Cindy McCain, Jeff Flake ”

0

In what is seen as a largely symbolic gesture members of the GOP in Arizona publicly censured three party members for different reasons but all of them basically underline that the party is strongly shifting towards the pro-right as well as a taking a pro-Trump stance, in a state which is seemingly looking to become purple.

The party also re-elected Kelly Ward as chairwoman. She has been a controversial figure in the party ranks and this election seems to solidify the state’s movement towards the right, while discounting the moderates.

The state party says that the three-party members have been censured for “failures.”

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey was censured for imposing emergency rules for Covid-19 which went against the Constitution. They said he brought forth “dictatorial powers.”

Ducey’s political director Sara Mueller discounted this censure and that it would have no consequences. She also said that the people behind this censure had lost the little moral authority they earlier had.

Jeffrey Flake was also censured for supporting Biden. He replied by tweeting a picture of himself, Ducey and McCain at the inauguration on January 20, 2021. He captioned the picture “Good Company.”

Cindy McCain, widow of the late John McCain, was censured as she purportedly supported “leftist causes” and not Trump.

Although she was unavailable when asked for a comment, she tweeted that she thought that it was a high honor to be included with a group of Arizonians who have served the state and nation so well. She added that she would wear the censure as “a badge of honor” as her late husband John McCain had also been censured by the AZGOP for his liberal views.

Former prominent Republicans have also expressed dismay about the recent proceedings as it is fractures the party after the Capitol riot.

Arizona has become a swing state and these in-party divisions don’t bode well for the GOP.

These differences are coming at a time when some Republicans voters are asking to change their party registrations away from Republican and towards Democrats, Libertarian or Independent.

Whether this is a fallout due to recent riot,  long term moves away from the party, it will be known only as times passes by.

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro Accused of ‘Crimes Against Humanity’ over Amazon rainforest by indigenous Brazilian leaders: Could face charges in The Hague

0

Jair Bolsonaro, President of Brazil has been charged with “crimes against humanity” by leaders of the indigenous people who live in the Amazon rainforest. He could be brought up in front of The Hague.

Two renowned indigenous leaders: Chief Raoni Metuktire, who leads the Kayapo tribe and Chief Almir Narayamoga Surui, who leads the Paiter Surui tribe have filed these charges at International Criminal Court (ICC), the Hague based UN court.

On Saturday, French newspaper Le Monde reported that the complaint at the ICC states that ‘the destruction of the Amazonian forest has accelerated without measure’ since 2019, after Bolsonaro assumed charge.

It was also reported that deforestation had shot up by 34.5% in a year. It stated that assassinations of indigenous leaders were at a 11% high. It also stated that environmental agencies were weakened by either shutting them down or by threatening their operations.

Both the leaders said the killings, the persecution and transfer of locals were considered to be “crimes against humanity.”

The complaint also spoke of the dramatic rise in destruction which was the worst when compared with a period of 10 years as a direct result of the policies of the President. His policies aim to remove all barriers that have herewith stopped the plunder of the rainforest by companies who have no or very little regard for the environment or for climate change.

They emphasized that “mining companies” have been the biggest degraders of the eco-sensitive region, one of the most beautiful and diverse natural resource of the world. They said that this destruction was a danger “not only for Brazil but for all humanity.”

Bolsonaro’s government has set forth legislation to relax restrictions in the Amazon rainforest region. This would allow commercial mining, large scale agricultural activities and oil and gas exploration and extraction which would further degrade this “once upon a time pristine region” when it was mostly under indigenous control.

Activists want “ecocide” to be considered as a crime and to be prosecuted by the ICC along with the current crimes such as genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. The issue was raised in December 2019 by the Maldives and Vanuatu at the ICC general assembly.

Jair Bolsonaro is at his lowest levels of popularity in Brazil mainly because of his mishandling of the coronavirus crisis. More than half the population is against his impeachment.

Anti-Gay church in Los Angeles hit by bomb

0

Police and the Fire Department of Los Angeles were called in when a home made bomb exploded at the premises of the First Works Baptist Church in El Monte, California, in the early hours of Saturday morning. No one was injured.

Windows were shattered and there was smoke coming out of the church windows. The FBI is investigating the explosion. They said that an improvised IED has been thrown in. Graffiti was found on the walls.

The pastor had received threats on social media of an imminent arson attack. Locals said that the pastor’s rhetoric against gays could be construed as hate speech. A group of them were planning a peaceful protest on Sunday but cancelled it due to the violence on Saturday.

Following Saturday’s attack the Los Angeles County supervisor Hilda Solis said in a statement that she knew about the pastor’s “anti-LGBTQ+ and misogynistic sermons” but also said that “violence is never the answer.”

The pastor Meija and the church have been preaching against gay relationships from the past three years. The Southern Poverty Law Center has labeled it as a hate group.

The pastor has a harsh stance against the community saying that the Bible justifies the execution of LGBT persons. He also says that it is justifiable to murder a pedophile or a thief.

He has also told his followers not to follow coronavirus safety measures. He told them not get vaccinated.

He also spoke in favor of the Illinois teen, Kylie Rittenhouse who shot dead two Black Lives Matter protesters in Kenosha and whose bond conditions were enhanced recently after he was serenaded by a group singing a song that is considered an anthem by white supremacist groups. He had also flashed   symbol that has been co-opted by white supremacists in a video.

The group that organized the recent protests against the church is called “Keep El Monte Friendly.” It said in a statement: “Our intent is to unite the community and keep El Monte a safe place for all regardless of gender identity, race or sexual orientation.”

Trump’s intelligence chief and defense secretary blame him for failing to activate National Guard

0

Christopher Miller, former Defense Secretary, told Vanity Fair that when he headed the Pentagon under the Trump administration the bar was ‘pretty low.’ They had three goals. There should be no military coup. There should be no major war and there should be no troops on the street. He said that third goal was broken on January 6 after the insurrection on the Capitol that day.

The 55-year old special forces veteran explained that the root of the root of the problem was an earlier decision by Trump to teargas those who protested outside the White House in summer. This made the Mayor of DC decide that she did not wish to see the National Guard again for the Stop the Steal rally, which proved to be the spark that lit the fires at the Capitol.

Miller also said that he had asked for National Guard support but Trump failed to ask for it. He also spoke of the compartmentalization of information by the military, which led to intelligence challenges. When Miller was asked about being a “Yes” man for Trump he denied the allegation and said his family were not huge fans of the Trump administration.

He also said, “I cannot wait to leave this job, believe me.”

Ezra Cohen, appointed as Acting Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security had a franker   and more harder hitting assessment of the lack of preparedness.

He said, “The president threw us under the bus.”

He added that the “us” included not only the political appointees or the Republicans but also America as Trump had caused a lot of damage to the fabric of the nation. He believed that Trump had the chance to “tamp things down” but he didn’t do so and that was the fatal flaw.

He also mentioned that the president was in charge and the person who is in charge is responsible when things go wrong.

How to Prioritize Your Mental Health in 2021

0

Saying goodbye to 2020, something we can all collectively agree on is that we need a break. It has been one of the most stressful years for many people, so it’s no surprise that our mental health suffered greatly in these circumstances. According to statistics, depression rates have possibly tripled during the COVID-19 pandemic in the US, which is reason enough for all of us to take this issue seriously. Of course, the end of the year does not mean that all our problems will vanish. But it’s a great time to make a change in your life that will benefit you in the long term. Let your 2021 new year’s resolution be prioritizing your mental health and not letting stress get to you and ruin your wellbeing. Here are a few habits you should adopt in order to do so.

Go offline

2020 had most of us glued to our screens more than ever before. However, the adverse effects of this are apparent. While it might not be possible to take a break from technology in the era of Zoom, you should still try to go offline from time to time. Being available at all times is not healthy, and the growing number of notifications on your phone can make you anxious. You also need to realize that you don’t need to be reading the news 24/7 and you should not feel guilty about it. We all need some me-time where we focus on ourselves instead of the screens of our smartphones — it’s the only way to stay mentally sound.

Make sure you eat healthy

You probably know that physical and mental health go hand in hand together. Therefore, to take care of yourself mentally, you also mustn’t neglect your physical needs. Make sure you don’t skip meals even when you’re busy — you will feel much more energized if you simply listen to what your body is telling you and don’t starve yourself. Make sure you are eating a healthy diet and you will not only be healthier but also feel better about yourself.

Start journaling

Sometimes, we need to face our own feelings and simply vent them out. Keeping your feelings bottled up and not acknowledging them will keep building up tension inside you until you can’t take it anymore. Journaling can give you the perfect vent for this. In addition, it’s also a relaxing activity that will help you blow off some steam. As little as twenty minutes of writing can improve your mood, but even if you just spend 5 minutes every morning writing it out, it can help.

Stay in touch with your friends

Our social connections are what keep us sane. This is why quarantines wreaked havoc on so many people’s mental health. So, in 2021, make an effort to stay in touch with your friends, even when you’re busy. If you find long video calls draining, a short message will also do. Even that much can give a boost to your mood and make you feel more connected. If it’s considered safe, make sure you spend some time socializing. You can still stay safe while seeing your friends, just make sure you choose activities that allow you to keep a distance.

Stay active!

You might already know that physical activity is one of the best ways to keep mental health problems at bay. Staying physically inactive can lead to health issues, too, so it’s more than recommended that you take up regular exercise for the sake of both your mental and physical health. Moving your muscles will stimulate your brain to release those happy hormones that will boost your mood, but it will also tire you out in a positive way so you will have a better night’s sleep. Exercise will also boost your self-esteem and make you feel better in your skin by keeping you fit. In addition, you don’t have to spend boring hours at the gym; any kind of physical exercise will do. You can try a sport, take up jogging, or visit an equipped bicycle shop and pick a model that you like. You will already be on the right path to a healthier lifestyle.

Spend time in nature

The pandemic has kept most of us inside for a long time. This kind of isolation sooner or later makes us feel alienated and stressed out. Instead of spending all your time among concrete, try to visit nature from time to time. Spending time in greenery will make you feel relaxed — it’s the power of Mother Nature we should not forget about. Take walks in a nearby park and explore your surroundings. It’s something you can do while still keeping your distance from others, if necessary. You can also combine exercise with nature to reap double the benefits. The aforementioned biking is one good way to do so, but you can also go for a jog.

Focus on tranquility

Prioritizing our mental health means doing everything we can against the harmful effects of stress. We have already mentioned exercise and spending time in nature, but some other things you could try in order to reconnect with yourself and focus on tranquility are yoga and meditation. Meditation has been shown to reduce anxiety and depression. Focusing on one’s breathing and relaxing one’s body is something that anyone can try, so you have nothing to lose. In addition, meditation and yoga go hand in hand, so you are also encouraged to try yoga and cultivate your mind and body at the same time.

Seek help if you need it

Finally, we must also talk about seeking help when you need it. We have already mentioned the importance of facing your feelings and acknowledging them. It’s the first step towards healing. It’s also important that you don’t keep everything to yourself but find people you can confide in when it comes to these matters. Simply sharing your worries already takes a load off your shoulders. Talking to your friends is a good place to start, but you must not see your friends as therapists. Instead, if you believe you need it, seeking out a real therapist is what you should do. Therapy will help you understand yourself and your feelings better and see clearer solutions to your problems. Today, you can have virtual therapy sessions, so there’s nothing standing in the way of your mental health.

If you have put other people’s needs above your own for way too long, it is time your mental health took priority. Follow these pieces of advice and make sure the world can’t wreak havoc on your mental wellbeing.

0

The winning ticket for the third largest lottery prize in U.S history –the $1 billion Mega Millions jackpot was sold in Michigan.

In the past there have been two larger Jackpots than Friday’s jackpot. In January 2016, three winning tickets for a $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot were sold. In October 2018, one winning ticket for a $1.57 billion Mega Millions jackpot was sold.

The winning odds for a Mega Millions jackpot are very high – one in 302.5 million. So, it is much easier to read or write about winning the jackpot instead of actually winning it.

The jackpot is popular in the U.S. and   people from 45 states across the nation play the game. It is also played in Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

This Friday’s draw winning numbers are: 4, 26, 42, 50, 60 and a Mega Ball of 24.

According to the Michigan Lottery website, the winning ticket was purchased by someone at a Kroger store in Novi, Michigan. Novi is a city that is situated approximately eight miles northwest of Detroit.

The Mega Millions jackpot top prize had been growing from over four months or approximately seventeen weeks. The last winning ticket was sold on September 15, in Wisconsin. The next jackpot of this lottery will be approximately $20 million.

Two days earlier, a ticket sold in Maryland matched all six numbers drawn to win a $731.1 million Powerball jackpot.

Both the Mega Millions Jackpot and the Powerball jackpot are extremely popular in the U.S.

The jackpot figures refer to the amount paid in total if the winner opts for an annuity, paid in 30 installments. Most winners choose a cash prize which decreases the amount paid out. The Mega Million cash prize is $739.6 million.

Are MacBooks with magnetic charging and a new design the next best device to come from Apple?

Credit Apple macOS Big Sur includes a beautiful new design and improvements to Safari, Messages, Maps, and more.

According to Bloomberg, Apple is working on a newer, thinner and lighter MacBook Air. It is planning a launch by the latter half of the year or perhaps early next year.

The report speaks of a high-end version of the latest MacBook Air, released in November. This MacBook Air is the one of the three Apple devices that works with the new M1 processor, as the tech giant removes Intel chips and replaces them with M1 processor.

The report continues by saying new MacBook Air will have Apple’s magnetic charging system, called MagSafe. An early invention, MagSafe was used in Apple laptops until two years ago, when it was replaced by a USB-C charging. It is now being brought back and has also been used in the iPhone 12 though its design is different and has to be used on a magnetic puck accessory for wirelessly charging.

The new MacBook Air will have a 13-inch screen but the sides will be shrunk. It will have a pair of UBS 4 ports to connect external devices.

Earlier this month Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple analyst, had said that Apple would be launching two new models of MacBook Pro laptops this year. The devices would be MagSafe and would have two screen sizes:14 inches and 16 inches.

It is also said that it might launch an iMac with Face ID. This means that it you have to look at it and it will unlock. However considering the Covid situation and the mandatory use of masks, Face ID may not be as desirable as before, and it may not be available soon.

Heads of three U.S. funded international broadcasters fired for running Donald Trump propaganda machines

The Biden administration is cleaning house and getting rid of pro-Trump appointees by looking for resignations by the partisans or by firing them if they don’t comply.

Michael Pack, a conservative filmmaker and former associate of Steven Bannon, the erstwhile political strategist of the former president Trump, had been appointed to the position of Chief of the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) for three years, a post created by Congress.

He had fired the boards of all the outlets under his control and was slowly turning the broadcasters such as Voice of America (VOA) and its sister concerns into pro-Trump propaganda machines.

The Voice of America or VOA as it is referred to internationally is one of the oldest independent public international broadcasters and was founded during the Second World War. It is required to present independent news and information internationally as per its congressional charter. It is funded by the federal government using taxpayer funds.

Since Pack’s post was not limited by the length of a particular administration Pack had no need to resign after Biden became President. The Biden administration swiftly removed him from his post on inauguration day.

The White House has appointed Kelu Chao, as the agency’s interim chief on Wednesday. Chao has over three decades of experience with VOA and has been a veteran journalist. Pack had been asked to resign according to anonymous sources as he faced internal revolts and growing calls for his resignation. Chao did not respond when asked for comments.

Some of Pack’s other appointees were fired on Thursday and Friday. The acting CEO Chao is said to have fired Middle East Broadcasting Network Director Victoria Coates. Both Radio Free Asia and Europe’s heads Stephen Yates and Ted Lipien had also been fired by late Friday after they were given these appointments just over a month ago.

Wisconsin Judge has Modified Release Conditions of Kenosha Killing Suspect  Kyle Rittenhouse

0

According to prosecutors Kyle Rittenhouse, the teen charged with killing two men during the protests at Kenosha, was allegedly drinking beers, while being cheered by a group singing the Proud Boys anthem, when he was out on bail.

A Wisconsin judge changed the terms of his bail. Rittenhouse’s attorney did not challenge the terms of the new bond after they were proposed in January and the teen, who has turned 18, is free after posting bail of $2 million.

Under the new terms, the teen cannot drink alcohol nor can he have any weapons. He is also barred from meeting those who harass others on the basis of race or religion.

Prosecutors had alleged that the Illinois teen was at a bar in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin on January 5, along with his mother. Many states in the U.S. state that a person must be 21 years of age to drink alcohol, legally. However, in Wisconsin, people below the age of 21 can drink alcohol if they are accompanied by a parent.

While he was at the bar, the teen is said to have drunk three beers. It was also said that he was serenaded by a group of five men, who sang a song that is used as an anthem for Proud Boys, a far- right group in the nation. The prosecutors mentioned this in the motion before the judge.

They also said that Rittenhouse was seen flashing the “OK” sign on video. This sign has also been taken over by white militia and supremacist groups.

Rittenhouse’s attorney said that his client had no objections to the new bond conditions. He also denied being a member of a white supremacist group, in court papers, despite the surfacing of these recent photos and video.

Walmart Adds New States In COVID-19 -19 Vaccination Distribution

0

As the Biden administration concentrates on increasing the roll out of Covid-19 vaccinations, Walmart has increased the number of locations and the number of states where it will deliver the vaccine.

As first reported by Reuters, the vaccine will now be available in many states across select locations. However, the state will decide which population groups are eligible to get the vaccine and only those groups will obtain them at Walmart pharmacies.

Recently the company had administered vaccine shots in select locations in Arkansas and New Mexico. In an email on Friday, a company spokesperson said that the vaccine is set to roll out in select locations in the following additional states: New Jersey, Louisiana, Chicago, Texas, Georgia, Maryland, Indiana and South Carolina.

According to latest data from CDC, more than 17 million doses have been administered across the nation. The new administration wishes to ramp up the roll out as cases continue to soar and spread across the nation.

Biden had said that his administration wished to vaccinate 100 million Americans in the first 100 days of his term of office. In his $1.9 trillion rescue package, the President has set aside a huge amount for the vaccine program and additional funds will be released after Congress accepts the total package.

The federal government has partnered with 19 pharmacy chains, retailers and associations across the nation. This indicates that it has partnered with over 40% of the pharmacy locations in the U.S.

In a blog post Walmart indicated that it has a lofty goal of administering up to 13 million doses per month across its pharmacies in the nation. The giant retailer has over 5000 pharmacies across the United States and Puerto Rico and can utilize all these locations to administer the Covid-19 vaccines when “supply and allocations” allow the retailer to do so.

Other major Pharma giants have also set targets. CVS has said that it could eventually administer as many as 25 million doses per month.
