On Monday, BuzzFeed, a media company saw its shares rise and fall in a short time after its debut on the Nasdaq. The public offering had been in focus as it was made by merging with a special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) called 890 Fifth Avenue Partners. BuzzFeed shares “BZFD” saw a brief spike up to 35 percent and then fell by more than four percent.

The brief stock surge showed that there was some initial investor interest but other signs indicated that there was distrust in the digital media company’s plans. BuzzFeed is expecting to raise $16 million from its offering. Investors in the SPAC pulled out $287.5 million that was 94 percent of the amount raised by the SPAC, according to a recent SEC filing. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report this.

Other media companies were looking to see the path charted by BuzzFeed before they went public. The choppy start has been noted but the company’s chief executive Jonah Peretti said in an interview on Friday that he didn’t care how they went public. He added that once they saw that they had a “path through that market” although it was cold, “it was just a means to an end to get public,” according to a report in The New York Times.

Vice had delayed its plans while Group Nine’s SPAC went public early this year but has not as yet closed a deal. SPACs which are also called blank check companies have lost a lot of their shine this year.

Jonah Peretti co-founded BuzzFeed 15 years ago. According to a report by Yahoo, he said that he had expected investors would pull their money out as the market for SPACs had cooled. He said that this factor wouldn’t change their strategy as the company still had money. The company had raised $150 million from convertible note that was still part of the transaction.

Peretti also noted that BuzzFeed was now a public company so it could use its stock as currency and could buy other businesses.

Fox Business anchor Liz Claman said that comparisons to the atrocities committed by Josef Mengele had to stop. She mentioned some of his atrocities in a detailed post on Twitter. Her post came after Lara Logan, a host on Fox Nation shocked many, not only Jews, as she suggested that Dr. Fauci and his pro-vaccine status “represents” the Nazi who performed horrific experiments on Jews.

Anchor Liz Claman listed many atrocities that were committed by Mengele in her tweet. She also said, “Let’s stop w/ANY comparison to Mengele. Dayenu. That’s Hebrew for ENOUGH.” Although she did not mention Logan by name, it was clear that she was referring to her. Logan had recently mentioned the Nazi doctor on Fox News.

Claman said that she wished that she didn’t have to write the post. She also said that as a Jew she was raised to know what happened and to speak out against “such vile evil including anyone who tries to diminish it.” She added, “Again, I’m sorry.”

On Monday, Fox anchor Lara Logan was part of a discussion on Fox News Primetime. She said that Dr. Anthony Fauci, considered by many as the nation’s leading expert on COVID-19, “represents Josef Mengele.” Mengele was a Nazi doctor who performed atrocious experiments on Jews under horrific conditions in concentration camps, during World War II. He was called the “Angel of Death.”

Anchor Lara Logan has not appeared on Fox News Prime or any other program on Fox News after her controversial remarks that drew condemnation from people worldwide include several Jewish organizations.

She made these distasteful comments on the second night of Hanukkah, which is a major Jewish festival. On Thursday, Dr. Fauci also expressed his anguish over her comments to MSNBC host Chris Haye and described it as “an insult to all the people who suffered and died under the Nazi regime in the concentration camps.”

Lara Logan is a South African journalist who joined the Fox Network last year. She hosts a series called “Lara Logan Has No Agenda On Fox News” on the streaming subscription service of Fox Nation and also appears on Fox News Primetime.

Jack in the Box Inc. announced that it will be buying Del Taco Restaurants Inc. Del Taco shares saw a steep rise in share price and trading was halted after shares reached $7.50 in premarket trading. Shares of Jack in the Box saw a less than one percent increase in premarket trading.

The deal has a value of approximately $575 million, inclusive of debt. Jack in the Box has agreed to pay $12.51 in cash per share. The transaction is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2022. Following this the combined fast food restaurant chain will have more than 2,800 restaurants located in 25 states across the nation.

Del Taco is the second largest Mexican fast-food chain by number after Yum Brands’ Taco Bell with about 600 restaurants located in 16 states across the nation. During the fiscal year 2021, the restaurant chain reported $521 million as revenue, according to Forbes.

Jack in the Box, which is one of the largest burger chains in the nation, has more than 2,200 restaurants in locations in 21 states in the nation. In the fiscal year ending October, the company reported $1.14 billion in revenue, according to Forbes.

Jack in the Box believes that the combination of the two restaurant chains would achieve synergies in procurement as well as in supply chain savings. They will combine technology and digital efficiencies and gain other financial benefits as well.

Darrin Harris, CEO of the burger chain, Jack in the Box that the deal was “a natural combination of two like-minded, challenger brands with outstanding growth opportunities.”

CNBC reported that Jack in the Box has said that the deal will see its earning per share grow by mid-single digits in the first year after the deal is finalized and after excluding transaction expenses. It is also forecasting better results for end of fiscal 2023. It is hoping to get $15 million in benefits from this deal, which would include supply chain savings as well as knowledge sharing initiatives.
