Lapsus$ group hacks Samsung Smartphones

It is unclear if the Lapsus$ hacking group succeeded in getting any type of ransom from Samsung. The Lapsus$ hacking group was also responsible for the Nvidia hack where the private data was made public for their employees. Nvidia’s information totaling approximately 1 TB, including details of all latest GPUs by the company was breached.

200 gigabytes of data that is confidential along with source code that included biometric unlocking operations and algorithms were stolen by The Lapsus$ hacking group .

Bloomberg reported, “  NVIDIA  didn’t confirm whether it was Lapsus$ who breached their networks and exfiltrated data but said they have been aware of the breach since February 23. “We are aware that the threat actor took employee credentials and some Nvidia proprietary information from our systems and has begun leaking it online”

The  source code that Lapsus$  obtained was for trusted applets installed in Samsung’s TrustZone environment. Samsung  uses this for   phones to  perform sensitive operations and algorithms for all biometric unlock operations and bootloader source code for all newer Samsung Galaxy devices.

It has been reported that QUALCOMM’s data was also compromised. The U.S chipmaker Qualcomm supplies chipsets for Samsung smartphones.

The request from Lapsus$ hacking group  was for   the U.S. chipmaker to disable its controversial Lite Hash Rate (LHR) feature and demanded  access to its open source its graphics chip drivers for macOS, Windows and Linux devices.

The stolen data also allegedly includes confidential data from U.S. chipmaker Qualcomm, which supplies chipsets for Samsung smartphones sold in the United States.

Power of the Dog Gay Themes at BAFTA Event Defended by Benedict Cumberbatch Against Elliott

Cumberbatch defended “The Power of the Dog” after actor Elliott dubbed Jane Campion’s Oscar contender a “piece of trash” last week, citing “allusions to homosexuality” as one of the film’s flaws. He said that it was necessary to portray Burbank’s complex character in the 21st century, his toxic masculinity that stemmed from his repressed sexuality, “because there are many of him still in the world.”

In the film, Cumberbatch plays a closeted gay rancher in 1825 Montana whose repression reveals itself in harmful ways, such as making life difficult for his new sister-in-law (Kirsten Dunst) and her son (Kodi Smit-McPhee) from a previous marriage. As the film progresses, the group’s relationship becomes more intense, with a focus on Burbank’s background, as multiple sequences highlight the harmful repercussions of repressed homosexuality on the hard-nosed cowboy.

The british actor Benedict Cumberbatch has responded to criticism of his Oscar-nominated depiction of rancher Phil Burbank in Jane Campion’s Western “The Power of the Dog.”

During a roundtable discussion as part of BAFTA’s Film Sessions on Friday, Cumberbatch appeared to address American actor Sam Elliott’s comments about the film, though he did not mention any names. Elliott, a 77-year-old 1883 actor and Western genre veteran, had criticized the film’s queer themes on the WTF With Marc Maron podcast a few days back.

Elliott claimed on WTF With Marc Maron that Campion, a New Zealand-born filmmaker who recently became the first woman to receive two Oscar nominations for Best Director in her career, was not qualified to portray a story about the American West.

The actor appeared concerned by the film’s deconstruction of traditional Western clichés like cowboys. Campion’s cowboys, according to Elliott, are like Chippendale dancers who “wear bow ties and not much else.” He also said that all through the film, there are numerous hints towards homosexuality.

Cumberbatch said that this is a very specific case of suppression, and there was nothing wrong in looking at a character to get to the fundamental causes of it.

The film “The Power of the Dog” has been nominated for 12 Academy Awards, making it the year’s most-nominated film. The film will compete in prestigious categories like the best picture and best director. The drama is now streaming on Netflix.

Are Turkish Drones Defeating Russian Military. Warning Graphic Video

0

The laser-guided, bomb-carrying drones that have served as an ace up the sleeve for Ukrainian military are made by a corporation with ties to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan–and they seem to be putting a strain on Turkey-Russia relations.

Turkish company Baykar Makina is a private Turkish corporation whose chief technology officer is Selcuk Bayraktar, one of the owners and Turkish President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan’s son-in-law. Selcuk Bayraktar who produces the Bayraktar TB2 drones, which have recently disabled multiple Russian launch rocket systems and taken out columns of armored Russian tanks and personnel transporters. Ukraine praised the drone operators’ “jewellery work” in an English-language tweet on Tuesday.

It is not the first time that these crewless aircraft have had a substantial impact on battlefields where Moscow is interested. The aircraft, which are not expensive to manufacture and deploy, have recently helped Turkish allies win fights as far afield as Azerbaijan and Libya.

Several Turkish officials and an executive at a defence company with close government ties told Bloomberg that Ukraine has purchased dozens of Bayraktar TB2s, together with control stations and missiles, since 2019.
During Erdogan’s visit to Kyiv earlier this month, the two countries also agreed to collaborate on a new generation of drones.

Ukraine’s Bayraktar drones fired their first shots in October, destroying mobile artillery in Donbas, a territory where Russian-backed rebels have been fighting Ukrainian army since 2014, and which Putin cites as one of the reasons for his invasion.

Prior to the Russian invasion, Ukraine’s government set aside land for facilities to manufacture Turkish drones in the country, as the two nations planned to deepen defense sector collaboration, including transferring Ukrainian engine technology to Turkey’s fast-growing armaments producers.

However, Turkey is careful of enraging Moscow and has mostly avoided publicizing the participation of its military hardware in battles in order to prevent jeopardizing economic relations or provoking a military response in countries like Syria.

Russia supplies more than half of Turkey’s gas and is now building a nuclear power plant in the country, while Russian visitors are a big source of revenue. Thousands of Turkish soldiers are stationed in Syria’s rebel-held Idlib province, where they might be attacked by government forces backed by Putin.

Walmart’s ad business revenues cross $2B, automation plays major role in 136% rise

According to an earnings release, of the fourth quarter, Walmart Inc. net sales exceeded $150 billion, with U.S. net sales crossing $105 billion. The big box retailer said that its global advertising business reached $2.1 billion. It also said that active advertisers who used Walmart Connect increased by 136 percent. This is the first time that the company has added advertising financials separately, in its report.

Analysts said that “large growth opportunities” are visible ahead as they discussed the fourth quarter as well as the full year results. They predict that Walmart Connect would reach the top ten advertising platforms in a few years.

Automation has helped the big box retailer in a huge way. About half of the advertisement sales in this quarter were a result of automated channels, according to the executives. This is more than twice
the sales seen year-on-year in quarter four, which is the quarter that generally sees the most sales due to the holiday season.

Walmart Connect, the advertising arm of the giant retailer is now driving growth, much more than what has been seen in the past year as well. There is a huge demand for retail media. Stores use their large amounts of data on in-store and online purchases to benefit the advertising business.

As a result of the pandemic as well as due to other factors, online sales are booming as consumers digital habits are increasing. On the other hand, brands are also seeing lesser amounts of key-ad targeting such as cookies.

John Furner, president and CEO of Walmart said on the earnings calls that the “key to the growth of advertising” was to have the “large seller and supplier base” that could reach their “customer base.”

Walmart’s fourth quarter earnings was good as the big box retailer’s comparative U.S.sales rose by 5.6 percent. Its revenue also beat the estimates of analysts.

Warner Bros The Batman sees box office boom opening day and excellent reviews

Photo Twitter-“The Batman” Warner Bros

Warner Bros “The Batman” opened this weekend in the U.S. and some international markets. The film crossed $57 million through Friday including $21.6 from previews screenings on Thursday and is expected to reach $110M+. The film has Robert Pattinson as Batman and is directed by Matt Reeves. It has opened in 74 overseas markets, on Saturday.

The strong opening proves that super heroes remain popular with audiences. The film scored an A+ on CinemaScore. It also shows that general audiences have also appreciated the movie and not just critics who wrote good reviews about the movie as they described it as both dark and gripping in its narrative.

Warner Bros had been promoting the movie from years and it also saw COVID related delays. When it finally hit movie theaters, it took a high flight to success. “The Batman” had the highest opening weekend of this year and its closest competitor “Unchartered” from Sony was much closer to ground level with $44 million in its three-day debut.

The franchise history saw huge opening weekend totals for “The Dark Knight” by Christopher Nolan which grossed $158 million and “The Dark Knight Rises” with $160 million and “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” the superhero crossover film by Zack Snyder which grossed $166 million. However, it should be noted that “The Batman” is not a sequel. It is a new cast with a new story.

Robert Pattinson is the seventh actor who has played the caped hero, who is also a vulnerable young man. The movie also has others such as Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. It also stars Colin Farrell as the Penguin and Paul Dano as the Riddler.

There was no other release this weekend and the other films in the top 5 were holdover movies. Unchartered collected $12.4 million gross while MGM’s movie “Dog” added $1.6 million on Friday. Sony’s Spiderman: No Way Home continued to stay at the top 5 of the box office grossing $4.75, on its twelfth weekend.

Different attitudes: Kanye defends violent video, Pete considers it ridiculous , Kim is furious

Rapper Kanye West posted a defense of his recent violent video Eazy on Instagram. The rapper had depicted a violence filled video with cartoon figures depicting him decapitating Pete Davidson, his ex-wife Km Kardashian’s boyfriend. The 44-year old captioned a photo of an animated church burning from the video and said that art was “therapy.”

Kanye proceeded to defend his artistic freedom by saying that art simplified and inspired the world. He concluded the argument by posting that “any suggestion otherwise about my art is false and mal intended.”

Fans, however, have different opinions. While some of his fans defended the subjectivity of art, they also said that there was a long history of him attacking both Kim and Pete after their relationship became public.

They also mentioned that calling it just “art” was an excuse as it had preceded by several earlier posts that could be termed as online harassment of his ex and her boyfriend.

Meanwhile, Kim Kardashian who was relieved that she was finally declared “single” by a judge in Los Angeles is reportedly furious. A source close to her told PEOPLE that she was upset with Kanye and she wanted him to stop the harassment.

The KUWTK star recently made sure that she added a like to a Twitter post about her boyfriend Pete. James Gunn, writer and director of “The Suicide Squad,” a movie in which Pete had acted posted this tweet: “For the record, Pete Davidson is one of the nicest, sweetest guys I know” and more.

Kim showed her appreciation by liking the post. She didn’t add more as she wants to keep her personal issues private, to the largest extent possible, as Kanye doesn’t seem to respect privacy or nor are his posts in good taste!

Comedian Pete Davidson was not at all worried about the violence depicted in Kanye’s Eazy video. Sources close to the American comedian told Entertainment Tonight that he found the fact that the rapper included a cartoon version of him “hysterical.” The source also said that the Saturday Night Live star was “almost flattered” by it all because it was “so ridiculous to him.

Alec Baldwin posts cryptic tweet, while Hilaria Baldwin takes a break from social media

Over the weekend, Hilaria Baldwin posted that she was taking a break from social media. She posted on Instagram that although she would not be online, she could share a photo, on ocassion, to assure her followers that she was okay. She also said that she wanted to inform her almost 1 million followers before she took her break but did not mention the duration of the break.

The 38-year old media personality addressed her followers as her “friends” and informed them that she was taking a “social break.” She promised them that she would be back and she loved them. She also said that she was informing them as she didn’t want them to worry about her.

The yoga instructor urged her followers to “be good to yourself.” She also sent “much love” and “good energy”. She also said that she cherished her community and that she would be back.

A source close to Hilaria told several outlest that there was no specific reason behind Hilaria’s break from social media. She had decided to enjoy her time with her kids without the distractions of social media. Taking a break would help her focus on them. She has six children with husband Alec Baldwin.

Weeks ago, Alec Baldwin was one of the defendants named in a lawsuit that was filed by the Halyna Hutchins estate. The actor had accidentally but fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins as well as director Joel Souza, who recovered since, with an antique Colt gun, on the sets of the Western “Rust.”

About four months ago, Baldwin was handed a gun that was called “cold” by assistant director David Hall on the set after it was checked by armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed. A “cold” gun means that there’s no live ammunition. Unfortunately there was a live bullet that killed Halyna and injured Souza.

When Halyna’s husband Matt Hutchins recently appeared on the Today show, Baldwin posted a cryptic message. He said that “in Buddhism being truthful” went beyond not telling lies. It meant that a person spoke “truthfully and honestly.” Alec Baldwin added that it also meant that speech should be used “to benefit others” and should not be used to “benefit only ourselves.”

Hilaria and Alec Baldwin, the power couple who were once really active on social and other media, have now gone silent.

Tech tool to let shoppers try on clothes from Walmart without a fitting room

Walmart has announced the rollout of a new tech tool called Choose My Model. This high end technology offers all the advantages of a fitting room on the big box retailer’s website. Customers need not try on a pile of clothes and then choose their favorites. The app will do the work. They just have to choose and click “buy.”

If you wondered how Choose My Model works here’s the answer. A shopper has to choose a person who resembles them in parameters including height, shape and skin tone. The tech tool will then use computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI) to show how the chosen clothing item will flow. It will also show the fit on a similar body.

Last May, Walmart had acquired a start-up called Zeekit. This is the first tool that is being implemented by the company. It adds convenience as customers need not step into a store to try out clothes before buying them. They just have to visit the website and make their choice.

Denise Icandela, the executive vice president of apparel and private brands for Walmart in the nation said that everything came back to providing customers with the “confidence to make the purchase.” She added that they wanted to have a “best in class shopping experience online.”

She also said that the big box retailer thought that this would be the shopping of the future and wanted to be the leaders in this concept.

Icandela noted that the new tool would make the “buy” button a preferred option, more often with items that had a “higher price point” or if they were a new brand that the customer might be trying. She also added that Walmart could gain from a “lower rate of returns” after implementing the tech tool.

Walmart had launched “Choose My Model” with 50 female models and would add 70, according to Cheryl Ainoa, senior vice president of new businesses and emerging tech for Walmart Global Tech. She said that she if she she tried the feature herself, she could have tried only two pairs during a store visit or might not have even have to make the trip herself.

The feature is currently in beta for select items including the exclusive brands from Walmart such as Free Assembly, Scoop and Sofia Jeans. It will add national brands such as Hanes, Levi Strauss and more, in the future.
