Chicago Red Stars forward Ava Cook tore her anterior cruciate ligament and will miss the rest of the NWSL season.
Cook, 25, sustained the knee injury during practice this past week.
“We are incredibly sad for Ava and will support her fully throughout her recovery,” Red Stars general manager Richard Feuz said in a statement. “Everyone at the club wishes Ava a complete and speedy recovery and have full faith she will work as hard at recovering as she does on the pitch every day.”
Cook has one goal in four games this season, scoring in the season-opening 2-0 victory over the Utah Royals on March 16.
The Red Stars selected Cook 18th overall in the 2022 NWSL Draft out of Michigan State. The Battle Creek, Mich., native started in nine of her 18 appearances as a rookie and tallied two goals and two assists. Last season, she notched three goals in 20 matches.
