The Los Angeles Rams have listed starting cornerback Derion Kendrick as questionable to play Sunday despite his two days in police custody for a pair of misdemeanor gun charges, but Kendrick said he expects to play.
The Rams (3-3) will host the Pittsburgh Steelers (3-2) at 4:05 p.m. Eastern.
Kendrick, the second-year player whom the Rams drafted in the sixth round in 2022, would not get into specifics about his arrest or the case against him, but the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office had said he was charged with carrying a concealed firearm and carrying a loaded firearm.
It was Kendrick’s second arrest in 2 1/2 years that involved a gun. In March 2021 in his hometown of Rock Hill, S.C., police said they found him asleep in his car with a gun and marijuana, according to ESPN.
Rams coach Sean McVay also talked like he expected to have Kendrick available, saying he had been in contact with the league office about the player’s arrest and doesn’t envision a quick punishment coming down.
Kendrick acknowledged losing “a couple of pounds” during his time in custody and was getting his conditioning back up to speed. He played in 15 games last season, starting six, and has started in all six this season.
