The visiting Portland Timbers and CF Montreal played to a 2-2 draw on Wednesday night in MLS regular-season action.

Daniel Rios and Wikelman Carmona scored for Montreal (4-7-1, 13 points), which is unbeaten in four straight MLS home matches (3-0-1). Keeper Thomas Gillier made one save.

Kevin Kelsy and Cole Bassett responded for the Timbers (4-6-2, 14 points), who have just one away win (1-5-1). Portland has points in consecutive matches for the first time this season. James Pantemis made six saves.

Rios opened the scoring in the 11th minute, sending his right-footed strike from the top of the box into the top right corner for his second goal in as many matches. The Mexican forward, who made his first MLS start for Montreal on Wednesday, scored the match-winner against Orlando City on Saturday.

The Timbers responded in the 21st minute as Kevin Kelsy tapped in a Kristoffer Velde cross for his team-leading fifth goal. Kelsy has three goals in his past two matches.

Carmona nearly gave Montreal a 2-1 lead in the 32nd minute, but put his low strike from just outside the area wide of the goal.

Montreal took a 2-1 lead just before first-half stoppage time as Carmona took a through ball from Matty Longstaff, outran a pair of defenders and put his left-footed strike past Pantemis.

Portland tied it in the 77th minute as Bassett put in his own rebound. Bassett’s initial strike hit the post, but the midfielder followed it up and put the rebound past an out-of-position Gillier.

Prince Owusu nearly gave Montreal the lead in second-half stoppage time, but Pantemis made a diving save.

Wednesday was the first match between the sides since October 2023, when Montreal topped Portland 4-1.

Montreal hosts the Chicago Fire on Saturday. Portland visits Miami on Sunday.
