The Baltimore Orioles activated catcher Adley Rutschman and right fielder Dylan Beavers and placed both in the starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the visiting Washington Nationals.

Rutschman, who batted third Sunday, had been on the 7-day concussion IL. Hitting sixth Sunday, Beavers had been out since May 11 with a right oblique strain.

To open a pair of spots on the active roster, the Orioles optioned infielder/outfielder Jeremiah Jackson to Triple-A Norfolk and designated catcher Sam Huff for assignment.

Rutschman, a two-time All-Star, was struck in the head by an errant throw on June 18 and went on the concussion IL on June 20. Entering Sunday, the 28-year-old was hitting .254 with eight home runs and 40 RBIs this season in 54 games.

Beavers, 24, played six games on a rehab assignment, splitting time between Triple-A and Double-A Chesapeake. A first-round draft pick by Baltimore in 2022, Beavers is hitting .243 with two home runs and 12 RBIs over 33 games in his first full season in the majors.

Jackson, 26, who had been on the roster all season, hit .251 with seven homers and 32 RBIs in 66 games. He was optioned as the Orioles elected to keep three catchers on the roster: Rutschman, Samuel Basallo, Chadwick Tromp.

Huff, 28, batted .174 in nine games while drawing accolades for his handling of the pitching staff and defensive skills.

In his first appearance with Baltimore in 2026, the 31-year-old Tromp went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run in Saturday’s loss to the Nationals.

Basallo, 21, is batting .254 with 12 home runs and 36 RBIs in 70 games entering Sunday.
