MLB News: Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez ‘all good’ despite early exit

Seattle designated hitter Julio Rodriguez aggravated a right ankle injury during the Mariners’ Wednesday road game against the Detroit Tigers, but the new issue isn’t believed to be serious.

Rodriguez, who left for a pinch runner in the eighth inning, said postgame that he was “all good” without providing details.

Seattle manager Scott Servais said of Rodriguez’s ankle, “It’s not swelled up or anything like that. It’s more of like a scar-tissue thing. He’s day-to-day. We’ll see how he is (Thursday). I think it scared him as much as anything, because he felt something.”

Rodriguez grimaced after getting out of the way of an inside pitch from reliever Will Vest. He was able to bloop a bases-loaded RBI single before departing.

Rodriguez came off the 10-day injured list on Sunday after he recovered from a high right ankle sprain that occurred July 21 against the Houston Astros. Normally a center fielder, he has been serving as the team’s designated hitter since his return.

Rodriguez had two hits in the Wednesday game, which Detroit won 3-2 in 10 innings, and he has three hits in the three games since he returned.
