The Los Angeles Dodgers signed free agent Nick Ahmed while placing fellow shortstop Miguel Rojas on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday.
Rojas is dealing with a right forearm strain.
Ahmed, 34, was released by San Francisco on July 10 after hitting .232 with one home run and 15 RBIs in 52 games with the Giants this season. He will have a chance to go against his former team on Wednesday, as he was set to bat ninth in Los Angeles’ meeting with visiting San Francisco.
In 11 major league seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks (2014-23) and Giants (2024), Ahmed has hit .234 with 71 homers and 337 RBIs in 940 career games.
The 35-year-old Rojas is batting .271 with three homers and 21 RBIs through 67 games this year.
