Multinational fast food chain McDonald’s Corp. (MCD) will briefly close its U.S. offices this week as it gets ready to notify corporate staff about job cuts made by the burger juggernaut as part of a larger company restructuring, reports said. The Chicago-based company requested that all in-person meetings at its offices with vendors and other outside parties be canceled in the message.

The Wall Street Journal was the first to report about the closures. McDonald’s stated in an internal email that it was closing its U.S. offices for those three days for the convenience and privacy of its workers as well as because it was a busy travel week leading up to Passover and Easter, major outlets also reported. According to the mail, McDonald’s employees would be notified if they are impacted by the cuts, virtually beginning on Monday, and continuing through Wednesday.

The choice to deliver the news remotely was influenced by the fact that the week of April 3 would be a busy one for personal travel, the food chain reportedly said. The business advised employees who would not have access to a computer during the workweek to give their manager their personal contact information.

As part of a larger corporate restructuring, the firm would be eliminating jobs, CEO Chris Kempczinski had announced in January. As part of a larger strategic plan for the burger chain, McDonald’s has also stated that it intends to make “difficult” choices by April regarding adjustments to its corporate staffing levels.

Companies across industries are reducing head counts amid concerns about a slowing economy. In response to slowing economic concerns, businesses across all sectors are cutting back on staff. Last year’s tech industry layoffs extended to the retail and manufacturing industries. Following previously announced layoffs, Amazon.com Inc. revealed last month that it was eliminating 9,000 more jobs. Twitter informed staff about headcount reductions in November and announced that offices would be briefly closed to protect staff, systems, and customer information.

McDonald’s claimed in a company message from January that the organization worked in too many silos, which resulted in layoffs and slowed its innovation. The chain stated that it planned to stop working on some initiatives and consolidate its efforts on others.

On another note, in January, the company informed investors that some lower-income customers were buying fewer items per visit or choosing less expensive options, but that overall, patrons were still spending money at its restaurants.
