Idaho Students Murder Update: Bryan Kohberger Might Have Incel Complex, Says Former FBI investigator

Bryan Kohberger, the man accused of killing a student at the University of Idaho, may be one of the young men commonly known as incels, or involuntarily celibate. According to a former FBI agent, University of Idaho murder suspect Bryan Kohberger may have been driven to kill four students by an “incel complex.”

Pete Yachmetz suggests that Kohberger may have been attempting to “assert some dominance” when he allegedly stabbed students Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Ethan Chapin, and Xana Kernodle at their off-campus residence on November 13. For the November 13 murder rampage in Moscow, Idaho, Kohberger is accused of four counts of first-degree murder.

The term “incel” is typically used to describe men who find it difficult to form romantic or sexual relationships. On rare occasions, identity is connected to violent crimes and misogynistic online forums, according to studies.

Yachmetz’s evaluation of Kohberger was consistent with Dr. Carole Lieberman’s, a forensic psychiatrist who last week told Court TV that she thought the suspect fit the incel profile. According to her, young men who struggle with romantic or sexual relationships with women come together online as Incels. Their thoughts are frequently misogynistic and can occasionally become violent.

When Kohberger was growing up in Pennsylvania, Yachmetz noted that he had a history of social problems. His former classmates have described him as a troubled, disgruntled young man who had a hard time at school. Sleuths and criminology fans are paying close attention to the case.

Lieberman remarked, “Incels like to be known for when they kill people or have a conquest like this.” He might have desired to commit the ideal crime without being discovered, but he also desired to be discovered and, in a sense, take pride in what he had accomplished.

Views of Kohlberger varied among the doctoral criminology students at the nearby Washington State University. Some of his classmates described him as “gregarious,” and residents of his native Pennsylvania claimed he was a drug-addicted loner who had been bullied. Kohberger’s high school cheerleaders, according to a local classmate, were some of her worst tormentors. The accused reportedly claimed in 2011 via social media that he felt “like an organic sack of meat with no self-worth.”

Although Kohberger is being held without bond, he has not yet admitted guilt to the four murder charges and one count of felony burglary. On June 26, he is anticipated in court once more. He could be sentenced to death if found guilty of the murders.
