Georgia high school shooting guard A.J. Williams is jumping a year to reclassify to the recruiting class of 2027.

Williams attends Eagles Landing Christian Academy in Georgia and emerged from the summer AAU circuit as the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2028. He told ESPN on Tuesday he will instead join this year’s senior class. ESPN ranked Williams, a polished 6-foot-7 combo guard, seventh in the Class of 2027.

Williams turned 17 in June and said in a social media post he plans to visit at least nine schools when official visits begin in the fall.

Georgia and Georgia Tech are vying to keep Williams in the state but competition will be fierce given UConn, Duke, North Carolina, Illinois, Auburn and Mississippi State also are in the mix, according to Williams.

247Sports lists Georgia Tech as the early favorite to land Williams with Auburn a close second.

Multiple services now list California high school center Yann Kamagate, who is over 7 feet tall but can shoot from the perimeter, as the No. 1 player in the Class of 2028.

Kamagate has offers from Duke, North Carolina, Arizona, Alabama, Baylor and Kansas, among others.
