Cardi B who was recently praised for her generosity towards the victims of the Bronx fire as she offered to pay for their funeral expenses is seeing some good things come her way. The rapper has won damages of $2.5 million in the lawsuit she had filed against a YouTuber.
On Monday, the Bronx native was awarded the following: $1.5 million in punitive damages, $1 million for general damages as well as over $1.3 million in legal costs.
The Grammy award winning rapper had filed the lawsuit under her actual name–Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar against Latasha Transrina Kebe who goes by the name Tasha K on YouTube.
CNN reported that the rapper said in a statement that the past couple of years had been “difficult” for her and she had been “constantly reliving” it and that it had been “very hard” for her.
She also thanked the jurors for taking time off their regular lives. She said that they “made a very fair and right decision.”
On Wednesday, Cardi B tweeted, “I need a chat with Megan [sic] Markle.”
Cardi B’s tweet follows an investigation that was conducted by Bot Sentinel, a data analysis company. It said that anti-Meghan YouTube channels were a million dollar industry that gained ad revenues of approximately $3.5 million.
Founder Christopher Bouzy told the Newsweek that Meghan should consider suing them so that these accounts might not only pay a price but deter others as they realize that they might be financially ruined.
Newsweek, which saw the filing by Cardi B, said that videos published by Kebe contained “multiple false and defamatory statements about the rapper including calling her a “prostitute” a user of “cocaine and molly” and that she still had herpes. It said that the defamatory videos were published to “cause emotional distress to Cardi B.”
Meanwhile, after losing the case, Tasha K posted on Twitter that she wanted to thank her husband and attorneys for their long hours and sleepless nights and that she would be “back to work.”
