CALLOFDUTY News: Royal Ravens hand Thieves first loss in CDL Major 4 qualifying

The previously winless Carolina Royal Ravens handed the Los Angeles Thieves their first loss in Call of Duty League Major 4 qualifying on Saturday.

The Royal Ravens (1-3) won the final two maps to upset the Thieves (2-1). After winning 250-138 on Karachi Hardpoint, Carolina lost 6-4 on Rio Search and Destroy and 3-1 on Karachi Control. But Los Angeles couldn’t seal the victory, falling 250-136 on Rio Hardpoint and 6-5 on Invasion Search and Destroy.

In Saturday’s other action, the Miami Heretics beat the Los Angeles Guerillas 3-0, the Vegas Legion topped the New York Subliners 3-0 and the Seattle Surge beat the Boston Breach 3-0.

All 12 teams taking part in qualifying will make the Major 4 bracket, to be held June 27-30 in Burbank, Calif. Seeding will be determined by the qualifying matches, which run through June 23.

The tournament will have a double-elimination format, with all matches best-of-five until the grand final, which is best-of-seven. The winner will get 100 CDL points and the runner-up gets 75. The prize money has not been announced.

On Saturday, Miami beat the Guerillas 250-229 on Sub Base Hardpoint, 6-5 on Karachi Search and Destroy and 3-2 on Highrise Control.

Vegas swept New York 250-199 on 6 Star Hardpoint, 6-4 on Karachi Search and Destroy and 3-0 on Highrise Control.

Seattle cruised past Boston 250-145 on 6 Star Hardpoint, 6-3 on Invasion Search and Destroy and 3-2 on Invasion Control.

Qualifying continues Sunday with three matches:
–Los Angeles Guerillas vs. Atlanta FaZe
–Toronto Ultra vs. Miami Heretics
–OpTic Texas vs. Minnesota Rokkr
