The Atlanta FaZe’s time in the Call of Duty League Stage 2 Minor was much more brief than the time it took to get there.

Earning the top seed to the event by way of their win in the Stage 1 Major, the FaZe were bounced in their opener in the Minor playoffs on Saturday, losing 3-2 to the Vancouver Surge in the quarterfinals.

All 12 CDL teams are competing in the tournament, which will reward $20,000 and 30 CDL points to the champion. The single-elimination bracket was seeded based on teams’ standing following Major 1. All matches are best-of-five until the grand final on Sunday, which will be best-of-seven.

Saturday’s four quarterfinals featured Round 1 winners against teams that received a bye. The FaZe took the first map against the Surge, winning 241-202 on Vault Hardpoint, before the Surge responded with a 6-5 win on Skyline Search and Destroy. The FaZe answered with a 3-0 win on Protocol Control before the back-and-forth continued with a 250-172 win on Hacienda Hardpoint for the Surge. But Vancouver was able to take the deciding map 6-4 on Protocol Search and Destroy.

The other three matches weren’t as close, with the Carolina Royal Ravens sweeping the LA Guerrillas M8 — 250-202 on Red Card Hardpoint, 6-3 on Red Card Search and Destroy, and 3-1 on Hacienda Control. The Toronto Ultra also won with a sweep, taking down OpTic Texas 250-124 on Skyline Hardpoint, 6-5 on Hacienda Search and Destroy, and 3-2 on Vault Control. In the fourth quarterfinal, the LA Thieves pulled off a reverse sweep of Cloud9 New York, falling 250-184 on Vault Hardpoint before winning 6-3 on Vault Search and Destroy, 3-0 on Vault Control and 250-109 on Hacienda Hardpoint.

The tournament wraps on Sunday with two semifinals followed by the grand final.
